I'm generally in favor of RS participating here under fairly stringent
guidelines. These guidelines would be driven in part by a history of
what has been on occasion unreasonably antagonistic behavior, but also
due to the tendency of some to inappropriate feel that they must rise
to the occasion and "give WORSE than they receive".
Perhaps "unfairly", Rob would need to take responsibility to ensure
that his behavior avoids the former AND doesn't take a form to provoke
the latter. Of course, it's recognized that there will be a few
people who seem determined to misinterpret even the most benign
comment and charge into it, and he can hardly be held culpable for that.
That said, any RS comment (public or private, that is related to his
participation on vpFREE) of an unnecessary inflamatory nature would be
unacceptable, no matter how modest. If he's unwilling to exercise
considerable discretion and restraint (possibly to an extent somewhat
extreme under other circumstances) then he should decline Tom's
invitation.
Unfortunately, his comment to Rhonda ("unflattering personality" in a
private email is of this character. No matter what past history he
may have had with her, a note concerning vpFREE should NEVER cast a
gratuitious and counter productive negative aspersion:
