Top Ten Casino Annoyances...

I recently hit a progressive jackpot for $1608. Using the guideline of .5%, I gave the goniffs (one of whom must have been all of 21 years old) an $8 tip. There was no thank you given. About 5 minutes later, the 21 year old passed by, and did say thank you. I felt like a real jerk for giving anything at all.

A little while later, a woman who had asked to use my cellphone the week before, and seemed like a decent person, hit me up for a $20 "loan". I never fall for these "loans", but this time I didsince I had just told her I had won the jackpot. So far I had given out 1.7% of my jackpot.

I think casino tipping has gotten out of hand. We worry about getting an edge playing 99.54% JOB, but quickly give back 1/2 % of our earnings to the well-paid person who is doing his job of bringing a hand-pay.

We go into a coffee shop for breakfast and get a bill for $12, and leave a $2 tip to a waitress who has taken our order, brought us water, filled up our coffee cup 3 times, brought our order out while it is still hot, cleans the table, etc. But the same $2 tip is expected if you ask a cocktail waitress to bring a couple of bottles of water to you as she passes by. These cocktail waitresses probably earn more than twice as much as the teacher who is teaching your child. Apparently this is the result of TITO. Before, you would take a couple of quarters from the tray for a tip.

It's even worse where I mostly play (at Mohegan Sun in CT). There, almost all the machines will not rack up credits over $500. So a pick-a-pair quad for $500 necessitates a hand pay, as do bonus quads on DDB. If you hit a few of these, you may still be behind or slightly ahead, but you feel badly if you don't tip something. If they don't either give me all large, or at least ask if I want all large, then I feel they're pushing for a tip, and I'll stiff 'em

That's extremely annoying and primarily the rule for machines on the casino floor.

The bartops are primarily $1200 for a hand pay. Many will allow you to accumulate $3000 before they start spitting out tickets.

Spent a weekend at Harrah's Laughlin, the remaining bar has 10 coin DDB Progressive. I hit one for $1106.50 and got paid all in hundreds and $6.50 didn't feel a $6.50 tip worth giving so they got ZiP.

I hit another for $1005. They paid the last hundred in 20's so they got one.

Hated to siff the first, but expecting $100 is too much. Guess I should have forked over the 6 bucks.

A $6.50 tip for an ~1K jackpot is plenty generous, especially since this hit shouldn't require a hand pay to begin with.
