think the bottom line is that casinos are in the business of making sure they
appeal to everyone and keeping the casinos as full as possible of
happy/satisfied patrons. If gamblers want more penny machines, voila, more
penny machines appear. If they want more table games, again they appear. All
these things make money. The only thing that is decreasing instead of
increasing is FP VP, get where this is going? The casinos will be making more
money and fewer gamblers will be coming out ahead. But, guess what? I'm still
going to go and I know you all will, too. Well enough rambling...gotta book
another trip!
Well, there's a catch -- as you've observed, people like VP, but the casinos offer LESS full-pay VP. More VP, less full pay.
People like single deck blackjack, so the casinos offer more single deck blackjack, but reduce the payment for blackjack from 3:2 to 6:5.
They'll give you what you "want", but they'll take away something at the same time to try to keep their bottom line progressively higher and higher. It's not REALLY about keeping the customer happy, it's about keeping them no more UN-happy than that magic line that, when crossed, loses the customer altogether and hurts the bottom line.
No one really knows exactly where that magic line is, and there is no doubt that some casinos have not gotten as close as they can to it (good for those of us who have some knowledge of the games), while others have crossed it and paid the consequences.
