too much cash

Casinos will not take your cash and issue you a check. If you hit a jackpot
(hand pay), at that point you can ask the casino to issue you a check instead
of cash. It usually takes a lot longer. Unfortunately sometimes you win and
are so flustered that you forget to ask for the check, and once they have
issued you the money it is too late!

Things to do: Buy a money order - most 7-11s sell them, as do various Check
cashing places around town. Buy travelers checks - AAA will sell them to
you, but strangely banks won't! Ship it home via Federal Express (not
recommended). Take it with you (money belts will only hold about 6 bills)
and try not to worry.

A note on room safes: you can put money in your room safe, but don't forget
it. I once won $8000 and put it in the safe. Then checked out and as we
drove away I suddenly yelled: "Go back!!" The money was still there. Room
safes or the safety deposit boxes in the casino are good places to
temporarily store your cash. If you are the least bit forgetful or paranoid
or just want to be careful, write yourself a note of some sort and put it in
your sink the night before checking out to remind yourself about the money.
(You'd think $8000 would be impossible to forget, but apparently I'm not the
only dummy this has happened too - when you are checking out you have so much
on your mind, and maybe not too much sleep, and you can forget.)

I do not recommend carrying a large size of cash in a money belt,
etc..You do not want to get your bag searched only to have them find
$10K or more in your bag. Buy Traveler's checks, money orders, or
look for a branch of your home bank and go make a deposit, i.e. Bank
of America, Cal fed, US Bank, Norwest..
