I stayed at the Tonopah Station last night, and they have a unique
promotion going on. When checking into the hotel, you get to roll three
dice. If all three dice come up with the same number, your room is
free. Of course, I did not win and had to pay for my room. That got me
thinking about the odds of winning a free room. My college statistics
book was tossed out two moves ago, so I cannot check on how to
calculate the odds. Anyone help me out with the calculation? Oh, the
check in gal said they give away at least one free room every night.
There is a total of 78 rooms, but I doubt they were even half full last
night.

I just love goofy dice promos. I have rolled the oversized dice down the
main staircase at the Colorado Belle three times myself and still have the fancy
beads to prove it!

Your promo:

Well the first die is free. Pick a number between one and six. Now the hard
part is getting the other two, to match-up with the first. Six sides means
you got a 1 in 6 chance to get the second one right. Once that happens you got
a 1 in 6 chance to get the third one correct. How about 1/1 x 1/6 x 1/6=
1/36.

This is the same odds on the Craps table of rolling snake-eyes or boxcars (2
or 12). I guess the promotion might have been in a Chuk-O-Luck cage they
borrowed from the Moose Lodge?

Now if we could get three dice on the Craps table it would be alot harder to
Seven-out.
