On my last quick walk through of the Nugget (December 30th) I
believe I noticed only 1 $1 9/6 JoB machine. There use to be two
side by side, but now its only one.
Also, from information just received from the Ramada, the newly
remodeled rooms at the Ramada might now be the best in Laughlin.
They have finished one tower and are working on their second. They
claim the ar "Best Night's sleep in Laughlin". Each room now has
Sealy Pillow Top Mattress, 300 Thread Count Sheets, 6 Comfy Pillows,
Granite & Tile in Bath, 27" Flat Screen TV, White Plantation Shutters
that open and close fully and other funiture and decorative
upgrades. The Casino Tower is completed and Promenade Tower is being
completed at the rate of 40 rooms a week.
I also grade Harrah's and Golden Nugget base rooms as very similar
in quality. However, this is based upon only two stays at the GNL
and numerous stays at Harrah's.
Keep up the good work. You certainly remain on top of everything
and we all apreciated the effort. There are a couple of others who
also are a great help about Laughlin and they are also appreciated.
The GNL is sending me $20 twice each month and double points all
of January and February. I have decided to not try to spread myself
too thin at too many casino. Not just Laughlin, but other
locations. I am not that big of a player that I can be rated at too
many casinos at once. For our use, 2 in Laughlin is the best bet.
This allows me to double book a comped weekend and share with friends
if I want. I use to receive VIP treatment at the Ramada, but that
has cooled significantly. I never pursued the Riverside or the old
Flamingo. Maybe I should put the new Aquarius in my sights. I have
never stayed at the Pioneer, but had play enough for rooms and a lots
of free food. The River Palms sends me two nights and $10 twice a
month. They downgrade their VP enough that it is little incentive to
pick that casino as a concentration casino. I use to get free offers
from the Edgewater, but they lost out to concentrated play at the
Belle. I would like to switch my full RFB from the Belle to the
Edgewater, for a change in restaurants, but that is not loyal or
practical.
I talked to an Edgewater host about their golf tournaments. The
Belle gives me a significant discount of their price, base upon
status, where the $450 tournament inclusive fee can be fully comped.
The Edgewater will do the same thing, but you must sart all over to
earn that status. In other words, even though they have the same GM,
I would pay full price at the Edgewater while a similar golf
tournment is free at the Belle. In fact, some of their tournaments
are joint tournaments. Past rated performance at the Belle means
nothing, or very little, at the Edgewater even using the same One
Club card.
I did receive a surprised telephone call last night from a host,
Helen Schmidt, at Harrah's Laughlin. Previously I had received
flyers introducing her as my Laughlin host and some flight offers
from Phoenix. I never made any contact with her and all reservations
and events for Harrah's Laughlin have been booked on line. She said
she was calling to ask if I wanted a room for the motorcycle "River
Run". She said they would be totally booked that weekend and she was
calling her people to let them know in case they wanted to visit that
particular weekend. I express that I will pass, but thought this was
a nice gesture. I assumed it would be comped, but I never asked.
Maybe she was just selling rooms!
She mentioned other planned schduled activities and asked if I was
interesed in a golf tournament Feb 9th - Feb 11th. She follow up her
telephone call with an email list of the next eighteen scheduled
events for Harrah's Lauglin. If members are interested I can post
that email list on this site.
I might book both a Colorado Belle Valintine offer and the golf
tournament at Harrah's for (Feb 9th - Feb 11th). The Valentine offer
is for up to 5 nights, a "seeetheart" dinner with harpist and
vocalist, a "gorgeous chrystal "Seeetheat Vase" and at dinner an
envelop containing $50-$100.
If I double book both the golf tournament and the Valentine offer
it will require at least 2 days of rated play (one day at each
casino). It is not a continguent for the offers, but what I would do
to maintain my status. I am not quite sure what coin in that is, but
so far I have been able to maintain full RFB at the Belle with some
concentrated play on one day for each 3 comped nights. I never put
my card into a machine at any time unless I will be giving a good
days play. If I want to play a ittle at any casino I will use my
wife card without any consideration as to how they might rate her.
This type of play did get her to Diamond status for next year. The
previous year I made her DIAD which also had benefits. Her diamond
card allows us to swipe in the diamond lounges or eat on her reward
credits while in Vegas, Laughlin or Phoenix, etc. I do not think
they even know I am there on some visits and thus I amintain a high
trip average. For example, I was comped 5 nights at Caesars over New
Year's (Dec 20th - Jan 3rd). I never put my card in the machine
until January 1, 2007. I did not need anymore play in 2006, but felt
sure I needed to play at least 2 days out of that 5 days. I assumed
5 nights would be considered 2 trips. The only time my card was
swiped was on January 1st and January 3rd. The remaining time we
moved about using her card (such as diamond lounges and a couple of
meals). It seemed to have worked since my trip average continued to
go up in spite of playing only 2 days.
Sorry, this got too long and I do not know if it is of much value.
I started out only correcting the GNL situation of the 2 machines now
being 1. However, I do know I receive a lot of value from other
posting so I thought I should try to add a little.

In honor of Dennis and Drew it is time to tune-up the GNL database.
Here it is..the current state:
<A HREF="http://members.cox.net/vpfree/Gloss.htm#DDJ">9/6/5 DDJ
(100.3%)</A>
(14) 25c Sigma slant-tops scattered around casino.

</A>
(6) 25c Sigma uprights by slot club.
(1) 25c Sigma upright mid-casino.
(1) 25c Sigma slant-top by Cheetah's bar.
<A HREF="http://members.cox.net/vpfree/Gloss.htm#JoB">9/6 JoB

(6) old Game Makers - East-central windows overlooking the river.
(4) 25c slant-tops in the same row in mid casino.
(3) 25c machines between the slotclub and Cheetah's bar.
(2) $1 at end of a row, mid-casino.

First, Cheetah's bar is gone man...along with my bartenders. GNL
now has
matching Game Kings in all three bars (Reef, Sand, Tarzans). So
sad, 7/5 Bonus
is the best play. You might get a beer in Tarzans that you can't
get on the
floor, like SN Pale Ale.
On the floor-
Kill all Sigma DJ.
As of 1/10:
Four of the IGT slant-tops (red glass) have returned with 9/6
quarter Jacks.
They are backing up the four remaining 8/5 Rapid Royals, right next
to the
stand alone change booth. That is it for quarter 9/6 Jacks.
I will give 12 as the number of DDJ quarters left. They all hang
out now in
the same area south of Keno...maybe 12 of 28?
Something completely new to add-
There are four rows of Game Kings, all with matching markings, when
walking
in the front door. The foyer still is a trip with the waterfalls
and real
plants mixed in with the fake...pause and enjoy. Steve Wynn had
something to do
with this feature.
Anyway, the first two rows have quarters as a base
denomination...they suck.
Rows three and four are nickel based. These 20+ GK have 12/8
(99.2%) Loose
Deuces to play in nickels and dimes. It is probably a mistake
since no LD

GNL has continued the same style mail for three owner incarnations.
