To Market To Market

Howdy

Many of us have our own ideas how the casinos can better market themselves to improve the current dismal situation . Some find it incredulous that they do not initiate a better way to draw us in. It seems we as players know more then they as "experienced" paid employees.

Personally, I do not know for sure why the effort, as seen through the eyes of the players, is not adapted to at least some degree.

Being on the inside makes them privy to facts not available to us. Company politics we are not aware can effect their plans. Qualifications of performing their job plays a major role. And what about the stockholders? They must be at least as sensitive as we are..don,t you think?

How long do they keep a marketing person if his track record is poor? Where do they get them in the first place?

Has anyone on this forum ever been asked by a casino how to improve the gaming experience?

What do you think is REALLY going on?

I first started to respond to your question by saying "Yes, I have been asked" , because I've been sent any number of surveys over the years. But then I realized, that little if anything in those surveys had to do with the gaming experience. Sure, I've been asked whether I would prefer a new Mexican or Chinese restaurant, Tiffany's or Tommy Bahama, smoking/non-smoking and other basically irrelevant items. (Don't jump down my throat about the smoking issue. I'm a former cigar smoker, and don't particularly like when someone sits next to me and begins chain smoking. But there are non-smoking areas available, so if I choose to play in a smoking area, that's my issue.)

I can't recall ANY question on game denominations, pay schedules, the quality/availability of players lounges, service from casino hosts, etc.

However, I WAS asked once by Mohegan Sun about free slot credits (this was just after they had offered them for the first time, and I used the offer. "Did you like the free credits, and would you use them again?" Duh, did I like free money?? Especially since MS doesn't offer bounceback or other cash, and you can only redeem your Players Club credits at their ridiculously overpriced stores?

I agree about marketing with regard to the gaming experience. My wife
and I have been going to casinos for over 30 years, and I don't believe
that we have been asked once about improving the vp. We have let them
know that when they removed certain machines that we would not return to
Caesar's or Belterra or Harrah's or wherever, and we have not returned,
but they don't mind. They seem to operate on the premise that if the
desert is good, the customers will ignore the terrible maincourse.
