I will become persona non grata for here for doing and I don't post
much, but somebody needs to do this -
Harrah's on average the past three years has earned around $300
million per year in profits. There is a bid on the table to buy the
company for $15 billion. Do you think anyone in their boardroom
things they have a problem?
Let me explain Harrah's in a nut shell, their core customer is
someone who play less than $2 per spin and will play any game
whatsoever as long as they get a free room or free food - that is
it - they can lose all the VP customers. In Illinois, where high
gaming taxes make video poker even more unprofitable they cut the
machines even worse than in Caesars LV - so what?, they still make
money there too.
You are all tilting at windmills. Now if this group wanted to stand
on a sidewalk and pass out leaflets to people why they should not
play traditional slots and 6:5 BJ, that they are getting ripped off -
Harrah's might give you some games to shut you up - but venting on
these boards is a waste.
As some Harrah's exec wrote to either someone on this board of the
Harrah's board, they are less liberal in Las Vegas because the
toursits will pay for things. Instead of telling your friends they
should go to this casino rather that casino, you would all be better
off to tell them to go to Orlando or Hawaii, because so long as
tourists keep coming, they will need gamblers and AP gamblers less
and less.
And this does not even speak to the local casinos. What happened
when Coast cracked down on good plays, their profits went up and
they sold themselves at a big price to Boyd. I was at a local bar in
Green Valley that a friend of mine owns and I could not believe the
horrid schedules these people would play - things like 6/5 Bonus
Poker - why? because for $20 or a roll or quarters they get free
food and that is all they care about. The Harrah's customer is only
one step up from that.
Public education encouraged people to quit smoking and stop drinking
and driving and only public education is going to keep people from
bad gambling plays - so my question is what is this group going to
do to educate the public?
