To Admin: Can we not show our e-mail addresses?

In the course of my recent postings, I have received many private
e-mails on the topics I brought up. With a couple of glaring
exceptions, they have been thoughtful and informative. One exception
is a person who calls himself "Steve Jacobs". His recent public post,
in which he is condescending and patronizing, is typical of his tone;
however, in his e-mail to me he dropped all pretense of civility and
proceeded to (in the course of disagreeing with me, which he is of
course free to do) insult me in various ways, stooping to snide
characterizations, and indulging in name-calling. He apparently felt
that his snide public posting wasn't enough. Now, I'm DEATHLY SICK of
seeing this sort of crap in my mailbox every single goddamn time I
post something more controversial than, "Las Vegas has a lot of
casinos." I have blocked this particular graceless boob from my e-mail
inbox, so it won't happen in the future with HIM at least, but for
God's sake why do we have to have our e-mail addresses displayed at
all? The reason I ask, is I'm going to change my e-mail address, while
staying within Yahoo, but I want to keep the filth and nonsense OUT of
this new mailbox this time.

Is it possible to post without having, or at least without showing, a
Yahoo e-mail address?

This is what made me give up on this stupid newsgroup in the first
place! I have largely given up VP, because I truly believe that the
machines are no longer honest, but I still thought I could offer some
advice now and then (I am on the road much of the year so I wouldn't
be posting much anyway), and perhaps get some info on non-Vegas
playing venues. Some people have told me that I "invite" attacks
because of my writing style. Well, making personal remarks, and value
judgments, about someone based on what you see typed into a box on an
Internet site is pretty ludicrous. If you don't like what I say, fine,
lots of people don't. But since you don't KNOW me; have never MET me;
have never had an actual CONVERSATION with me, attacking ME for what I
say is the act of an uninformed lout.

I hasten to add that the verbal vomit poured into my mailbox was far
less in volume than it had been in the past. But I'd like to reduce it
to ZERO.

(snip-snip)

but for
God's sake why do we have to have our e-mail addresses displayed at

Let me see if I understand this request. Are you asking our esteemed
administrator, who has created the most popular video poker forum on the net
with more than 2,700 members in less than two years offering up a seemingly
unlimited number of free resources, to protect your precious email address?
Then, three sentences later in your post, Do you deem the group that he has
devoted his time, talent, and efforts to, a STUPID NEWSGROUP?
All I can say is that you are one piece of work. Sorry Tom, put me on
moderated status.

Kevin, here are my suggestions on elimination of the venomous verbal vomit
vilifying your inbox.
A. Unplug your mouse
B. Step away from the keyboard
C. If quitting twice was good enough for MJ, it could be good enough for you
D. As Matthew Broderick said at the very end of Ferris Beullers' Day Off,
You're still here?....Go,Go Home already.

Untrue.

He apparently felt
that his snide public posting wasn't enough. Now, I'm DEATHLY SICK of
seeing this sort of crap in my mailbox every single goddamn time I

Kevin, this is a malicious mischaracterization of my email.

Facts:

1) The name "Steve Jacobs" is on my birth certificate and my drivers
license. I'm sure the same can't be said of mkl54321.

2) My posting was intended primarily to be factual. Snide is in the
eye of the beholder.

3) This is a public forum. If you are unwilling to have your comments
challenged, then perhaps you shouldn't post them to a public forum.
This is especially true of comments which are contrary to mathematical
fact. I tend to challenge posts based on myths and superstitions that
have been repeatedly debunked after close examination with a
mathematical microscope.

4) I emailed Kevin ONLY in response to email which he sent to me,
outside of vpFREE. He initiated an email exchange, and I responded.
He knows this to be true, yet his post would have you believe that
I emailed him first.

5) I have copies of the exchanges in both directions. If anyone here
would care to judge for themselves which emails contained
"name calling" and "filth" I'd be more than happy to have someone
impartial compare them. I'm quite confident that anyone who wished
to make such a comparison would find that Kevin is falsely characterizing
the exchange.

lots of people don't. But since you don't KNOW me; have never MET me;

You weren't attacked. You posted myths, and I responded with facts.
Posting to a public forum does not give you some magic shield that
prevents others from challenging what you say. That principle applies
not only to points of mathematics, but to points of integrity. Those here
who know me from rec.gambling.blackjack also know that I don't take
kindly to people who intentionally misrepresent my words or actions.

It is bad enough that you post myths and freak out when they are
challenged, but don't go around claiming that I've sent you "filth".
That sir is a flat out lie, and you know it.

Kevin,

I think it is fair to say that you have brought much upon yourself by your personal attacks on others over the years. Those who live in glass houses............

And it is the nature of email to show who an email is from.

Yahoo groups can be set up to allow "Members may hide their email
address". This is an irreversible process and choosing this option
eliminates a group's polling capability. I believe the only change
would be to hide a member's email address and IP from the group
moderator on the web. Individual emails would probably continue to
show email addresses of the senders. I don't intend to implement the
email hiding option on vpFREE.

I have 2 email addresses. One for this and the similar groups and I
get almost ZERO spam.
The other, for other activities gets 6-10 spams each day.
