Why would you NEVER tip at the cashiers cage? They have receptacles there for deposit.

Why would you EVER tip at the cashier's cage?

If I have one or more TITO slips to redeem and the lady or man in the cage has been pleasant and friendly I see no reason NOT to tip just as any other employee, gets compensated. The dealers, butlers, bellman, waitstaff, etc etc. It's just a small thank you gesture.

I like to take all of my tickets and feed them into one machine to
create just one large ticket. Sometimes the kiosks won't cash it if
it's too big and will direct you to the cashier. When this happens I'm
normally winning and feeling generous, so tipping is just natural.
I've tipped bathroom attendants plenty of times while winning, so I
don't see tipping the cashier as out of the ordinary.

That's an interesting concept, Rod. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I just don't agree with you. I would never tip a cashier.

Of course, I also don't tip dealers - just because they do their job
with a pleasant demeanor. However, I *will* tip a dealer if he's
been helpful to me (such as reminding me to place the odds on
my pass line bet). And, I've even tipped change persons when
they assist me in locating a specific machine I'm looking for or
held my machine while I used the restroom.

I agree that tipping is a thank you gesture. But, I think that it
should be done when they have actually done something to thank
them for. Simply being friendly while giving me cash for my chips
(or TITO vouchers) isn't worthy of a tip, IMHO. And, I cannot think
of anything that a cashier would do for me which would warrant a
'thank you' gesture from me.

But, I'm open to suggestions.

Can't think of any reason to tip cashier either. Gee, maybe the
casino should put a tip cup on the side of trash cans. What a new
revenue idea for the casino!

Tips in gaming are for something extra not just doing your job.
There are exceptions on case by case.

Back when the soon to be No Frontier was the (old) Frontier I played
a lot of $1 vp there. No bill valadators then. Many times, through
the day, dollar coins stuck in the slots. Along came a slot guy and
unjam them. The good repair person always spotted you an extra few
coins when unjamming machine. Now these were folks who earned their
tips. We would tip the slot mechanic after a couple trips to fix
coins. Of course if you didn't tip the girls at jackpot time, they
would spread it around how cheap that person was. Also, they would
have a meeting and collectively wish bad luck on you. They were
tough. I think they had those voodoo dolls.

Ah...the good old days...Jeep

.

I probably over tip dealers, especially in craps. When I get the $1 chips, I usually put them on the pass line for the dealers. It's nice to hear one of them call out "Dealer on the line." I know it's not going to change me odds but the table crew sure help me out a lot faster.

Most other players use those chips for the center table bets. I'd rather give it to the guys who are helping me

I agree about tipping the craps dealers, Chet. But, do you tip the people
in the cashier's cage?

With tito this is quickly becoming less important, but I would always
tip the people cleaning out the ashes from the coin trays. I still tip
those who clean up the mess around the machines. They are very
appreciative as they are not accustomed to receiving any monetary
recognition. IMO they are much more deserving than the ones who simply
give you back some of your money.
