Depends on the service ... I might tip as much as $50.

- H.

Depends how the $200.00 is configured and for how many people. If for only two to three
people, and the service is straightforward and ordinary and involves only minimal but
correct attention to the table by wait-staff, then $30.00 (15%) as a minimum is
appropriate.

If the service is beyond average, such as welcoming, informed without being intrusive or
special because you have asked for something out of the norm, then 20% and up is
appropriate.

If the service is slow, completeley indifferent or non-existent (10% and descending)
should let them know.

One should tip depending on the service received. The fact that the meal is comped should have no bearing whatsoever on the amount of the tip.
Just my not so humble opinion.

Of course! The server does the same work whether it is comped or not.
20% is a standard tip.

In the same vein if you were paying for the meal and, because of a
problem (not the server's fault), they removed a $50 item from the
bill you should still tip based on what the bill WOULD HAVE BEEN.

Remember, the IRS is assessing them 10% whether they get it or not
and a portion of your tip goes to the hostess, bartender, busboy, etc.
