Can't comment on your brain, Liz (although you did reply publicly
despite your intentions -- that's ok, on another forum I unwittingly
posted my address and private phone number in a post intended to be
private :).
Interceding for Tom, the problem with many links is that they are
quite lengthy and frequently get broken into a second line when
imbedded in a post or email, causing them to be non-functioning.
Websites such as "tinyurl" and "makeashorterlink" provide a means to
provide an abbreviated link that avoids this problem.
By the way, Tom, tinyurl seems to be working this morning. For what
it's worth, I've never experienced difficulty with either.

A link is simply an address. An address is simply a unique name for a
place\
in cyberspace. I suspect tinyurl and similar places simply create a mapping
between long unique names and short unique names. When you click on the
short
link, they probably just look up (or calculate) the actual name and connect
you.

Interesting, but I'm wondering about the probabilities for being dealt a
correct tinyurl. I've had some bad experiences with makeashorterlink,
probably due to the normal high variance, and even with good pop-ups back my
makeashorterlink ER has been abysmal. Is tinyurl any better, and is there a
database I can check?
