TI Update

I stopped into TI Sunday to redeem FreePlay. You may qualify even if you are not a guest. Many members of the MGM-Mirage Players Club get SOMETHING from TI, so be sure to stop by and check. You'll keep the same account number as before on your new card though the casino is now independant.

I wasn't there long but was surprised to see many $1/2/5 single-line machines right by the slot club with 9/6 Jacks, 9/7 DB, 9/6 DDB and 8/6 Bonus Deluxe. Didn't check High Limit, and I don't expect an invitation back, as all they will see from me is FreePlay redeemed and nothing afterwards.

Surprisingly, the tram to/from the Mirage still operates, though there isn't any real connection between the two casinos anymore besides that transportation.

You thought they were going to close the tram? Ballys and MGM ran what is now part of the monorail as separate companies - there are different states and in even different countries that share tunnels and bridges, why do you think this is so odd?

Yep, those paytables exist on those machines, but there is a little gold plaque on each one telling you it's $15 coin in to earn one point. (It's normally $4.50 coin in per point on video poker.)

Now that there is no financial connection between the two properties I am sure the expense of running the monorail is monitored closely. There is a reason Steve Wynn originally called TI "Treasure Island at the Mirage". It clearly wasn't the Mirage that needed the publicity or traffic. Mr. Wynn wanted his new property to be busy from the start.

MGM-Mirage operations can evaluate current traffic going into the Mirage from TI. If it doesn't justify the expense the monorail will eventually no longer operate regardless of what happens with tunnels and bridges elsewhere. The tram is at the mercy of number crunchers who love their cost/benefit analysis more than providing conveniences.

But, it wouldn't surprise me that as part of the TI sale the continued operation of the monotail wasn't included as part of the contract. The new T.I. probably was saavy enough to not lose that vital link and simply be an island unto itself. After all, they knew enough to keep all the MGM-Mirage Players Club database information. TI still maintains your old account number and prior comp status as part of their slot club system. That's the reason I, like many of you, had $250 in FreePlay available even with no prior "new" TI play and no stay required.
