Had a strange trip to Vegas and need some insight into how strange it really was. I do not normally play deuces game very often, maybe 10% of the time for a break.

Day 1
Some Ultimate X at GVR, others - no wins of note. switch to deuces and hit four on a hold 2 draw for $1,000.

Day 2
Off to Laughlin for two days staying at River Palms. Up and down, nothing of note with much DDB. Start to notice that I have been deal 2 dueces about 40 times (guess) and I never got even a third duece. Just seemed odd. Switch to dueces and hit four on hold one draw for another $1,000.

Day 3
Stop at Aquarious, drop about $900 playing DDB and SDDB. Switch to dueces and hit 4 when holding 3, another $1,000. In all these cases, I only played 30 hands or so before hitting, and did not play much after, so although I don't know total hands, it was not many. Still never even three deuces at DDB!

Day 4
Stop at Red Rock (back to Vegas). Stop at entrance machines and loose $200 playing full pay DDB. Swith to Loose Dueces with third $100 and on the fifth hand am dealt 4 dueces after throwing out a nothing first 5, for $2,500.
Play other games and win nothing else that day.

Day 5
At bar at Bellagio, not winning at anything, switch to deuces and hit 4 dueces on a five card discard, another $1,000.
Take a walk to Planet Hollywood. Playing 3 play Bonus 8-5 and nothing. Switch to one play and try Bonus deuces, about 30 hands in, hold one 2 and draw 3 and an ace, for $2,000. Starting to wonder why I just don't play dueces all the time but know something weird is going on here so I only play a little at a time and continue with my normal plays (loosing at that though).

Day 6
New Years eve at the Paris. Will stay there but will not play here as it is BAD VP. About 6PM, stop back at Planet Hollywood. Play triple $1 for for about half hour and bonus poker just is giving me nothing. Switch to deuces and hit 4 on about the tenth hand for one win, for $1,000. Can't remember what I draw to? Decide to try for a little longer on this machine. Dealt four to the royal, and hit one, for $4,000. Cash out and go to get ready for new years eve.
Watch fireworks from in front of Paris and then I am ready for goodnight, as early morning flight out. As I am walking back through I see a Ultimate X machine open and can't resist a little play before bed. Play DDB and whatever for half hour $.50 triple play. Watching person next to me play same game but playing deuces. Seems to hit and get multipliers alot of the time so I decide to try it as I have never played deuces on Ultimate X. Like this could not get more bizzare, I am dealt 2 dueces on about my tenth hand, and of course I hit four on one of them, and the one with the 7 times multiplier, for a $3,505 payout. Cash out, went to bed, went home AM.

Not being dueces player on a regular basis (yes I practice and know plays) I knew this was weird, but not sure how weird. What is the frequency of dueces?

And as a footnote, 2009 was not a good year, and my Royals were about 3 short when I hit the one here, but it was nice to give a positive hit to the year that generally sucked.
One more thing, noticed that final W-2 at Paris (only play there and win, thank you) was dated 12/31/2009 even though I won at about 1Am 1/1/2010. Was looking for that positive start to 2010, but I guess I'll just have to try again.

I'm not sure this is an "insight", but I 100% believe that we all get into cycles. The tricky part is knowing when they begin and end.

I was doing great on NSUD all last summer. That changed before Halloween, and my deuces have long since "vanished". I did stubbornly stay on that game for awhile. Then I backed off NSUD (as you did on unproductive games in your report) before the losses became extreme.

But as for aces? They were cold through the summer, now they're hot. When I dropped NSUD and started playing more Super Aces, SDB, DDB and DB my sessions turned very positive. I easily drew sets of aces (even from one ace) and was happy last Saturday to see a no-brainer: dealt aces on a $1 5 Play.

For me it was deuces then, aces now. Your luck is exactly the opposite. We're mirror images of the same game.

I applaud your ability to change things up. In fact, I recommend all players have more than one game in their inventory of VP skills. If I only knew NSUD strategy, the deuces may very well have returned for me by now. But if they hadn't, I might have been out of this game for a long, long time. Survival means not only knowing how to fish but how to hunt as well.

Had a very strange trip to the Mohegan Sun last weekend. I was playing DDB in
the old poker room on a machine that's been good to me with multiple
quads in the past. I had a series, 3 or 4 hands in a row, with
pairs/trips 5's. The string was broken, but I felt I was going to get
quad 5's - then 2 hands later quad 5's. A short while later, it
repeated with Aces - 2 pairs in a row, trips, the feeling: Aces nothing, nothing, quad Aces. Them about 20 minutes later, it happened again, with 7's. Half an hour later, trip Aces, pair, trips, feeling, nothing, nothing, quad Aces again.

OK, so pretty weird right? The bride is sitting next to me, playing at
the 20-cent level, and she gets 4 to the royal in clubs, and she nudges
me to show what she's going for. Her pull was the 2 of diamonds, and I
said, "tough break, must be waiting for me to hit the royal." No more
than 10 hands later, I'm dealt the AKJ10 of clubs, and I just knew I
was going to pull the Queen. And sure enough, up pops the lady. I
hadn't even nudged the bride, I was so sure I was going to hit. Her
first clue was the music going off.

That was pretty much the end of it, no more weird feeling something was
going to hit, just regular play for the rest of the trip. But I kept
looking around for Rod Serling to show up.

I had a strange night 2 nights ago as well. Played 4 hours on DB and hit 16 four of a kinds and 2 straight flushes. Some of the 4oak's were dealt, 1 on redraw, couple holding one card, one holding one random card and 4 filling in. Very few of the hits were "normal hits." Too bad I didnt come out more ahead but it was a fun night.
