No.
It is not proper netiquette, nor appropriate, for
off-topic conversations to continue on a mailing list
with thousands of subscribers. Most of these posts
are personal ideological attacks anyway and should be
sent via private email between those involved. The
fact that FREEvpFREE is not moderated allows others to
continue on ranting threads which have absolutely
nothing to do with the goal of the group as a whole.
Yes, we do have delete keys and email filters, and
yes, we can use them, BUT what is the point of
belonging to a moderated group if there is no
moderation?

The fact that several "off-topic" posts have
nonetheless generated
many responses indicates that those are subjects that
people are
interested in discussing. Why squelch that? Just
because a few
people have carped about the non-VP posts? Don't we
precede the post
headings with "XVP:" and include an honest subject
heading, so that
those VP purists won't suffer from being exposed to
these non-VP
discussions? Isn't that enough???
