The vpFree_Detroit folks met for the 3rd time on Thursday Nov. 2 at Greektown. In attendance were:
Tom W. ( TFC, Tom from Canton)
Preston
Henry and Carol ( more about this later)
Nick
Gary ( almost)
Me
We went over to Pappy's for dinner. Preston bought the first round on his latest winnings and we had a toast to VP Pappy and his Dad. God Bless, Terry.
Dinner at Pappy's was very good as usual. On the way over, we somehow lost Nick. We were walking from the 2nd floor bar to Pappy's and I checked back a couple of times to make sure everyone was still there. I looked back the 3rd time and Nick was missing. Preston went back to find him but couldn't locate him. Hopefully he got stuck in a hot dice game and is now sitting on a pile of benjamins.
Gary was at Greektown but we played phone tag back and forth and didn't meet up. Cell reception is sometimes tough in the casinos.
Onto the weird. Henry's wife Carol looked at my comp slip and said "I know a Zaroff". I asked who and she said Ted and Rose. Ted and Rose are my parents. Her father Hank has been a family friend for as long as I can remember. Carol also knows my sister Mary. It's a small world after all.
I have been in contact with Steve Senk, vp of slots, at Greektown. After much discussion I can report out 2 pieces of good news:
1) It looks like the current comp policy is as long as you use comp dollars periodically so that there is no 6 month gap in usage, the dollars stay on your account. I don't think you have to earn comps every 6 months, but you do need to use them every six months. I believe it's a rolling 6 month window.
For example, on January 1st I earn $100 comps on my first day of play. I play in March and earn $10 and I play in June and earn $10 more dollars. If I don't take a comp by June 30, I believe all $120 comp disappear. If I take a $10 comp for Cold Stone on April 14th, my comp balance is preserved until October 14th. So, to put it simply, your comps expire 6 months from your last usage.
2) Greektown has always mentioned that the unused comp amount is returned to your account. Being a little sketical, I asked Steve to show me how this works. I sent Steve the last 3 comp amounts I had taken and he sent back the amount charged against my account. They lined up to the penny. I am confident that this feature of the comp program is working properly.
For you big players, there is a change in the high roller room. There used to be a couple of $5 pick 'em machines against the wall. This is to the right of the carousel of $10 and $25 pick 'em machines. The new machines are $1/$2 machines. One is 5 play multistrike and the other is 3/5/10 play. Both machines have 9/6 JOB as the best game I saw.
That's all for now. We might do one more get together around mid December. Maybe December 14. The weekends are too crowded.
