There is no fate but that which we trip over

I'm beginning to understand why the Greeks thought that heaven was
populated by gods whose chief pastime was busting a gut laughing at
the flailings of those silly little humans down on planet earth, and
occasionally meddling just to see what would happen.

I played in a bar/grill free VO tournament that had some decent
prizes: $200 first, $100 second, $50 third. Well, I had dinner while
waiting for my turn, and by the time I came up to bat, one person
had alrady hit a royal, and another AAAA2 (this was DDB), so even
though I ran my 500 credits up to 970, I was essentially playing for
third. I decided not to wait around for the couple of hours that it
would take for all the rest of the contestants to play, feeling that
SOMEBODY would surely beat my 970, and went down to MSS to play some
FPDW.

A couple of hours later, my cell phone rang while I was walking
through the lobby. It was my friend, who had stuck around for the
end of the contest; he informed me that my score had indeed held up
for third place, but that since I was no longer present, they gave
the $50 to the next highest score. I was mildly annoyed at this; but
as I hung up the phone, I TRIPPED over a coin bucket that was just
SITTING there in the middle of the floor! The bucket had money in
it...I looked around for any possible claimant, but there was no one
in sight. I scooped up the bucket and took it to the cashier, and it
proved to have in it....$52.50 in quarters.

I'm sure that if I had somehow avoided the bucket I would have found
two green chips on the floor....

Is a VO Tournament where you drink as much Seagram's
VO in a given amount of time to win?
