Their getting viscious in Reno

You are correct. The casinos don't care if you are
green, white, or purple. BUT, if they see that a lot
of their clients are purple, they will hire purple
hosts to cater to them, and will have many special
promotions and bring in entertainment that the purple
people like, and have restaurants with great purple
chefs, and huge purple menus.

I was thinking about what would cause the massacre while waiting

for

my pot roast dinner at Perkins. I think I'm beginning to see the
picture. I haven't been to Reno in awhile, but. Knowing some of
those involved and how strong they are and speculating about the
promotion involved I'm gonna take a wild guess as to what the
scenario was.

Let's say you are a long time Reno resident and a sharp gambler.
Brand X Casino makes a mass mailing to local slot club members.

And

let's say they are offering $300 in freeplay for $15,000 coin-in.

You just happen to know that they have a 100% game with extremely

low

variance. You can run the action in a few hours. How would you
handle the play? Just go in and run the action, right? Then pick

up

the freeplay, right?

But what about your wife? She got the offer too. But she doesn't
know how to play the game. So you play it off for her. She picks

up

the freeplay.

But what about your sister? She got the offer too. But she

doesn't

know how to play the game either. So you play it off for her and

she

picks up the freeplay. Of course you are getting your cut.

And what about your brother? And your mother? And your father?

And

your mother-in-law? And your father-in-law? And your sister-in-
law? And your brother-in-law? And all your friends too numerous

to

mention?

I would say it's the most likely reason for all the sour grapes on
South Virginia.

I say good for them. Few things irritate me like a "pro" who sits
down with multiple cards and a cheat sheet.

He means there have been times where Asians have walked in and gotten
things like loss rebates (that "the average white man" can't get)
simply because the casino stereotypes the Asian as a certain type of
gambler (large, reckless, etc).

Paladin responded: You doubt wrong. Or should I say, "incorrectly"?

Whether Paladin phrased this correctly or not, he is exactly correct ---
at least some of the time.

Right or wrong, casinos use stereotypes the same as most of us do from
time to time. This group of people are this way --- that group of people
are that way. Asian players have been so profitable historically to
casinos that using this stereotype is very useful.

When I was a blackjack player in the early 1990s commuting to Vegas from
Los Angeles, my girlfriend at the time was a Taiwainese citizen. (If you
care, Shirley and I met in 1996 and married in late 1997.) We got
special offers from a Mr. Chu in the San Francisco area for the Las
Vegas Hilton and Flamingo Hilton that was not available to caucasians.
We would sign up twice each time --- once using Ginny's Taiwainese name
and her passport and the other using Ginny's Americanized name using her
California driver's license.

Years later at the MGM Grand, Asians who played in the high limit room
received a 10% discount on their markers --- which is HUGE. There were a
couple of players, every bit as strong as me, but who would get this
simply because their parents were Asian. These guys would take out a
$50,000 marker at the start of every trip --- play what they would ---
and three days later pay back $45,000 (with a check if they had to.)
They'd make two trips a month doing this and receive a casino bounty of
$120,000 a year just because of their heritage!

I have other examples as well, but these will do for now.

If you want to be politically correct and believe that all casinos are
always colorblind, go ahead, but you're living in an imaginary world.

If you want to say that for most lower stakes players (say $5 or lower)
this USUALLY doesn't matter, that's probably a correct thing to say. If
you say it NEVER matters, you're definitely incorrect.

Has anyone bothered to check the legality of racial profiling?

Do I sense some sort of prejudices against the Asian population?

Tell me I'm wrong.

Not really. They get the least heat so their able to run the most

players through.

Don't forget China, either. That's a slightly larger pool to deal

with.

In Vegas when you run 6 people every 8 hours for 2 days through on
your card playing VBJ, it's called "winning a points challenge". I

had

a different word for it, but I guess I'm in error.

Hardly anybody actually lives in Reno/Tahoe. The gangs out of
Sacramento and San Francisco are another story. Local addresses, if
needed, are easy to get. Just about any kind of ID can be had in
California.

If you play big enough, and you carry the right passport, you can get
a deal. This would almost certainly exclude everyone on this forum,
though.

You say "hardly anybody actually lives in Reno/Tahoe." Reno area has a
population of 400,000 now. If you want to add Carson City and Tahoe
then that figure would have to be upped. That could add up to a lot
of local pros.

That's just people claiming a Washoe County address. Like I said,
hardly anyone actually lives there. Most of the city residents are
undocumented casino workers and bus transients and UNR students. There
was a booming construction industry, but I'm sure you've heard that
story. Wanna buy a downtown condominium? Better hurry before they're
all sold out! Near the "Train Trench" locations are limited!

Oh yeah, in case you haven't heard, there's a serial killer on the
loose, bring or ship in your own ammo, stun guns and pepper spray, the
local stores are all sold out.

So, are the casinos offering point X promotions to counteract this?

They should hand out free stun guns, at least to women. Also, most
casinos claim that don't allow right to carry, they should just drop
that and leave those with right to carry permits alone. Go after the
criminals and leave law abiding citizens alone. Of course, there is
also a lot of corruption, so maybe casinos don't want to eliminate all
crime.

F*&)k NO !!!!
Great casinos, rooms, games, FOOD. going for 30yrs, will be at
Atlantis 03/23.

go to vpfree-reno & read the trip reports.

Somebody posted an old USA Today story about crime in downtown
vegas ,how it wound up as a negative story about reno was the story
was being used to show calif. native casinos was a better play.
No, not even close.

Other than a few "advantage" players hustling free play, no body has
had a problem with a casino about their play. I have done well in
RENO with no attitude.

Atlantis & the Pepp have sent free frooms ,free play, food credit
offers this week. I will stay at the Atlantis but I will go get my
free play & use my food credit at the Pepp on my march trip. Oceano
is fantistic!

You will luv playing in Reno.
