We were at the VP Free lunch today and my husband and I sat opposite Don,
who told me the sad story of about 400,000 hands of VP, mostly FP deuces, and no
royals. There was no explanation for it.
After lunch my husband and I sat at a couple Main Street machines. Me at a
bad triple play DDB where I hit quad after quad but finally the quads stopped
and my profit evaporated. My husband at a FP Deuces. After about 1/2 an
hour my husband hit a royal.
I couldn't help but think of poor Don. The thing is, my husband plays
hardly at all. And when he does, almost entirely FP deuces. He hates making
mistakes and is the world's second slowest player (I know because I saw the 1st
slowest one day at the Palms). He gets up and goes for breaks constantly. A
30-minute session is almost too much for him. If he loses $20 and then wins
it back he is ready to quit - and usually does. He plays maybe 15 minutes of
VP a week (if that), except for the hour or so a day he practices on Win Poker
(he is trying to perfect his perfectionism).
So who gets the royal? Poor Don with his 400,000 hands (single line VP), or
my husband with his 300 hands per hour average play and maybe 10,000 hands
all year who gets one in a session with maybe 150 hands???
Who knows what poor Don is thinking right now as he reads this?
I'm thinking the gods of poker aren't....
But keep on trying Don - eventually the laws of probability have to kick
in......at least I think you have more chance of that than appealing to the luck
gods.
