Linda:

I read your book and found it a good resource for the novice and
beginning Video Poker player. The organization was good and content
excellent.

Thank you for buying my book and the positive feedback! I've been gambling most of my life--table games for years--video poker the last 15 or so years. I had a lot of help from Joanne Abrams, my Square One editor, making the language clear and focused. ( I heard lots of "this makes no sense--do it again".) If you've played the games a long time it's easy to assume too much--most people are smart but haven't heard the terms we take for granted.

The toughest part, for me, was finding a format for my strategy cards that was user friendly--this involved years in front of the computer and lots of volunteers. The final product--included free for the 8 recommended games--is accurate and easy for everybody to use. Even experienced players refer to them briefly when switching games.

I think it would be helpful to use standard card
abbreviations in your text and also your Strategy Cards. A , K, Q,
J, 10 for Ace, King, Queen, Jack etc.

I did this on my original strategy cards--both formats, "Taboos" and "Best Bets"--you'll still find these at the Gambler's Book Shop in Vegas (great place for gamblers). The problem was people complained about even those abbreviations on my cards--mostly due to the lighting in the casinos. My editor said they had to go and poof! I will consider changes for future printings of the book, not the cards--hopefully, I'll have some--as long as it keeps things clear for everybody.

The second would be to
emphasize the max coin bet more than you did in the book. A lot of
novice players are confused by the option of betting one or two
coins etc. and since your subtitle is "How to Play Smart and Bet
Right" on the cover, I think this point is often times missed and
your book referred to in the text on page 44. I believe a bit more
emphasise is needed.

I agree with you--I made the point several times--you're right, I repeat it on page 44 (I had to look); however, I know it's needed to receive the game's ER. I will emphasize this even more as you suggested.

Again, thank you for buying my book and for taking the time to comment!
Linda
