The sound of crickets....

Mohegan in the last year or two has been all about the bottom line. They believed they were losing money on advantage vp with points and comps added in.

I'd go a bit further. RIght after I got my "letter" , I gave MS a call. It took some effort, but after speaking with a lot of people I got the answers. MS didn't simply beleive that, they had software which put a dollar cost on every player. I don't recall the exact number, but I was told I cost them something like $40K in rooms and lounge access alone.

That number seemed crazy to me. Sure they do inflate the value of comped things.. but ...$40k? really?

So I probed some more, and from I was told, it was quite clear that other people must have been using the lounge (under my name) and booking rooms too! That really got me going. I did learn since then that my host (and her assistant and the casino) had "allowed" the room shananigans to go on (and that it was common practice even thtough it was against their official policy!) Ok-- that explains the crazy $40K number (kinda)-- but according the MS folks, it didn't matter that it was $40K or $20K or $10K-- the issue was that I was costing them money-- that's what their new software said-- despite being a losing player that year!

Sadly, the bottom line is that MS is probably doing the right thing for them. They should know how much a player is worth or costs them, as the case may be, and act accordingly (to maximize profit over all). And since there is little competition (at least until new casinos open)-- they can get away with firing their most costly customers. The've probably already found that doing so doesn't seem to hurt their image-- nor their bottom line. WHen I stop by MS to spend my remaining points, I always check out the high-limit areas. Yes, there's a new crop of players there, banging away on the VP (including the short play pick'em).. for no points. In fact, it seems to me that I see just as much or even more action now then I did at many times over the years... except for just after the first pick'em downgrade perhaps (when it was a real dead-zone). But now I don't know any of the faces.
