Diary of a Temporary Six Month Sojourn in Las Vegas or The Really Long Trip

Well, the desk top is about to be packed up and loaded into the Utility
Trailer, so this is the last desktop PC message until we set up home in Las
Vegas for the winter. I hate typing on the laptop so will probably just lurk
on that.
It is unbelievable what this winter sojourn in Las Vegas will take to get set
up. We seem to be taking almost everything we own except furniture (we are
renting that). Since we are staying six months, we need winter and summer
clothes. I am rather frugal so am taking some groceries, laundry detergent,
things I could buy easily when I get there, but......I already have them so
why not take them, even a package of toilet paper is packed.
We had to defrost the freezers and gave a lot of frozen food to a homeless
shelter. A lot of it would not keep for six months and giving it away
generated another tax deduction too. This is the first time in 14 years my
freezer is virtually empty.
Moving for six months seems to be not much different than moving for six
years. We had to make arrangements for mowing the lawn and snow removal.
Someone to come in and water house plants. Change magazine subscriptions and
address changes for literally dozens of magazines and correspondents. At
times it has been daunting. My most important suggestion to any of you
considering a trial life in Las Vegas, make lists, then more lists, then a
few more.
One big mistake I made, I did not write down toll free numbers for all the
magazine subscription address changes phone calls I made, a Big Mistake. I
have to do all that again next April when we move back. Groan.
Well it is now departure day minus two. We leave for Las Vegas at O'Dark
Thirty (5:30 AM) on Halloween. Keep good thoughts that we have a safe and
good journey. Hope to be seeing many of our Las Vegas friends about November
5 or 6. We will be at Suncoast until we get into the apartment on November
