Catching up on the backlog of messages and this one hit close to home.
After four days of consistently losing on my trip out to Las Vegas for CES,
I was playing at one of the bars at the Imperial Palace...I didn't want to
plug in another $20 while waiting for my brother to get ready to leave, so I was
"extending my play" by dialing down to betting three. And, of course, we
all know what happened....a Royal in Spades. That squandered $825 or so would
have made up the losses for the trip and then some. And I know better...I
thought I'd learned my lesson long ago about that short coin betting...must
have something to do with a lack of psychological bankroll to cope with the
down turns. (Although at that stage of the game, I was happy to finally wind up
cashing out at something over $200.)
A side note on the trip..this was my first time staying at the IP...despite
CES going on, they honored the "$39/night" rate deal from their mailing, even
though the fine print said it wasn't good during conventions. (I also wound
up with enough comp dollars to knock another $70 off the room.) The room
was on the second floor, so we didn't have to deal with the infamous "slow
elevator" situation. The room stunk...literally..until I jimmied open the patio
door and aired the place out. The weather mostly stunk too...didn't do much
walking...took the monorail back and forth to the convention center every
day. (They need to review their "crowd control" scheme at the stations during
busy times.)
