The Non Sequitur of Progressives

Some think that you have to stay with a progressive until it hits but I
don't agree with that unless the edge is high (which means it's a rare bear).
Also you can look at chasing progressives as playing one long session
broken into parts. Since I'm an out-of-towner I rarely find something that is
high so I'll start on something moderately good & sometimes ride it into the
sweet spot where the locals come to gather honey. But most of the time I'm
gone since I often have commitments. Other considerations are the
opportunity cost of what else you have and the toll it takes on you physically as
you play long hrs. As I get older, I'm becoming more health- & volatility-
conscious so I think of chasing things with lower edges as good for health
(shorter sessions, less competition from the hardcore who often have bad
habits) & bankroll (high progressives force a lot of sacrifice adjustments
which come more often with every unit change). So if you can't stand the heat,
stay with the lower progressives where you can often get to play it by
yourself at a leisurely pace with a smaller bankroll..

2. If you sit down and play at exactly 100%, the meter will progress from
there. Which means on a progressive, break-even is a WIN--equal to the
amount of meter-rise on the Jackpot you are playing for. (This is also an
oversimplification and assumes that once you sit down you will play until the JP
hits).

Very valid points. Your health is certainly more important than a few fractions of a percent off your edge.

If you don't get down and stay down on progressives you lose a lot of the "meter-rise while you are playing" extra advantage.

At M where the rise on the active meter is only .5% the difference is small. The M progressives may be played almost like non-progressives at your convenience.

On a 3% single meter you would be loath to walk away before the JP hit.

If the game's theoretical return is 104% when you sit down, and it is 105% a half hour later when you suddenly feel like going home and taking a nap, why would one give a crap about how much one personally put into it? I don't get it.

So Frank, at one of those extravagant and gluttonous meals you were talking about on the show the other night, you suddenly feel like leaving some carrots on your plate. What's the big deal?

I was not referring to a progressive one plays at 104%. Walking off the M is no big deal as most of the win is in immediate expectancy.

In the old days we would get on high MR progressives at 100% and play only for the amount the meter would progressive as our profit.

There was a time when we even played the 2% Hilton at 99% and gave up half the MR win. In scenarios like this one would not wish to pump the meter up and then leave.

Those scenarios may no longer exist. I was waxing nostalgic.
