The New Year's Revelers are Coming

What a revelation!! I'm not so naive that I don't know that the town packs
in for New Years. But today, my drive from San Diego to Las Vegas took over 7
hours compared to the usual 4 and 1/2 - 5 hours. Along Highway 15 there were
no accidents but anywhere that construction had cut the lanes even to 3, the
funnel of cars from "everywhere" could not be accomodated.

As I approached Las Vegas before the new Southcoast, the mass of autos were
now crawling into the city. Thank God, my turnoff was the 215 to come over
here near the Orleans. Those of you that have various bounceback rewards at
Silverton would be prudent to use Industrial when leaving since the ramp
construction getting onto H-15 contributes even more to the traffic.

Maybe I'm in shock. Its only Tuesday, the 27th. If what I saw today was an
indication, I may tram - it if I have to go to the Strip. Early bird morning
pick-ups of cashback and/or bounceback would also be better.

Drvie safe out there. My belated Happy Holidays to you all!

What time did you come over from San Diego? I left LA at 9:30 AM Tuesday morning and
arrived in Las Vegas at 2:30 PM, a five hour trip that included a 20-minute stop in Barstow.
Never went slower than 60 mph.

It took me about seven hours from Orange County to Mandalay Bay on the 26th
(we left at 5:15pm). There was traffic from I10 to Cajon Pass, an accident
in Barstow (at the 58), and a couple of accidents past Baker. The final bit
of traffic was on the final hill to Primm. According to the "highway
stations," the accident at the 58 eventually required the 15 to be shut down
so two helicopters could land. They said traffic was backed up 15 miles.
The clerk at MB mentioned that a lot of people had mentioned the traffic.

Traffic today was basically non-existent (for the 15). The only slow down
was a tour bus doing about 40 mph before Barstow. We made it from Zion
National Park to OC (a stop at a McDonald's drive through, and two gas
breaks) in seven hours, also.
