The Lord of the Rings...it is NOT video poker.

We are in Las Vegas again. The trip gave us our first "slot machine" experience. My wife and I were "taken" by the "hype" surrounding "Lord of the Rings".

For VP fans, in a nutshell, it appears to be kind of 40-line Spin Poker without examination, selection and a re-spin. It is purely random and you just sit there and watch. The "cards" are replaced by "pictures". You are only looking for 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind or 5 of a kind. No high pairs, 2 pair, flushes, straight flushes, straights or full houses. And, the very frustrating thing is that the "matches" have to start on reel 1. You can have lots of "legal" 3 of a kind or 4 of a kind scattered about, but, if they do not "start" on reel 1, they are useless.

There are "wild cards" and random events that occur that increase the number of "wilds" on the screen, on a given spin But, again, if the sequences do not start on reel 1, they are ignored.

Further, other things happen that you sit there and watch, like power spins and a deal where you get to select things on the screen at random and then other random things happen (usually with a lot of noise happening, announcing such). Again, it is all random and you just sit there and watch.

Yes, it is "exciting" the first several times. We played several hours and accumulated about 50 "miles" or so. But, after a while, it is the same thing over and over, and gets boring (at least for us) pretty quickly.

Back to VP for us! <smile>

Again, just our opinion. Different strokes for different folks. Slot machines (at least "Lord of the Rings") do not appeal to us.

My Answer: Only play slots when your mind is turning to mush from too much VP! It is soothing and gives you back some brain waves.

Sounds like good advice to me. Thanks!

I took Bonnie's suggestion this past week in A.C., played a 35 cent spin on a "Jaws" machine and won a $353 "major jackpot." Penny slots serve their purpose when the mind is too tired for vp and we need just a few more tier credits to make diamond or platinum. It's also uplifting after someone else wins the progressive that you've been chasing.
