The Last Hurrah

After 15 years, I made my last trip to Caesars for the weekend. The
enjoyable RFB status is now gone (no more raiding the mini-bar for
those tasty "appletini" cocktails inside). Now, Total Rewards becomes
Total Control, meaning that if you spend on one thing you have less
for another.

I had about $100K coin-in for the day-and-a-half and was assured by a
nervous host that Total Rewards will give me the same trip with even
more flexibility. I'm not dumb, and doing the math shows me an RFB at
Caesars with all those gourmet restaurants is not attainable at my
level with Total Rewards. Every meal now becomes a mathematical issue.

It was a sad sight Sunday, walking through the Forum Casino with all
those years of memories and seeing a ghost town, with all machines
shut down for conversion. A slot mechanic who had 22 years with
Caesars toiled away. The line for Connection Club cash-outs
stretched to Pahrump.

So, do I go back to the same casino and get far less for the same
play (and thats assuming they don't downgrade the VP)?

Not gonna happen.

Great memories. No regrets.

Great memories. No regrets.

For the better part of 13 years I have been a RFB regular at Caesars and I have/had several
hundred dollars in comps in my connection account. Lord knows what they'll be converted
into by the time I get back to LV later this month. Hopefully I will still be able to cash it all out
and have a great blowout meal to say farewell.

Caesars was always great kitsch with class and threw off that vibe that was pure Vegas
through and through. I have no idea what it will become once it has been thoroughy
Harrassified, however if it is anything like what became of the Rio or the Flamingo, I think I
will prefer to remember it as it was and avoid it.

So......

Who is going to give us the first run-down of what the new Caesars looks like in terms of
VP? Is it the Rio and Flamingo all over again? Or, is the new Caesars going to be different?
Any early visitors?

What about the new Bally's/Paris?

I didn't have time for more than a quick look, but on Wednesday
evening the same machines with the same paytables were in the same
locations scattered around the Forum casino area as always. I'd say
about 90% of the slots have been converted to accept Harrah's cards.

What's all the hysteria about anyways? The merger closed months ago
and Harrah's management has been in place at Caesars for a while.

Elimination of cashback and RFB status, and the likelihood of the
elimination of decent games below the $5 level as Harrah's has done at most
of their properties.

I can understand the apprehension. I'm thinking about how to budget my
limited gambling time in the future, and I may not be spending any at
Caesars.

But, since someone asked, Harrah's passed up another opportunity to
eliminate playable VP at Caesars this weekend. As far as I can tell
they have exactly the same VP inventory they've had in the past year
or so.

I mentioned this before, and will do so again-do not judge Harrahs VP
nationwide by what they offer in Vegas. I can immediately think of a
half-dozen venues where the VP is good and the programs acceptable.

I think the mail will go down a notch, but it was tightened up shortly
after Harrahs bought Caesars. When Harrahs swore off big action
several years ago, the company was teetering towards bankruptcy, and
frankly, their executives were not skilled in accomodating such
players properly. It's a different ballgame now.
