The FVP Software

I've been fielding a lot of questions about this program so here are some answers:

Thousands of people have bought this program over the past years and are still happily using it as their only or primary go-to VP software resource - although other programs have come out since it launched. Many use it with the same-name book (Frugal Video Poker) because that book has "lessons" in the back that helps you get more out of the program, i.e., how to edit quads to figure out the value of some promotions.

However, many of you are getting new computers, with Windows 7, and find they can not install the program from their original disc. They are asking about an update. Unfortunately there will be no update for FVP because Jim Wolf is no longer connected with that program. But many people have solved the problem by copying the complete set of FVP files from their old computer to their new computer running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. And the program runs fine.

If you do not already have FVP and thus can not use the above "fix," I recommend Bob Dancer's "VP for Winners." It is a good program. Although I still use FVP most of the time because I am used to it, I use Dancer's program to practice Multi-Strike, which no other program offers.

If you have a Mac, I recommend Dan Paymar's OpVP Software for Mac / software.

Both can be ordered at
http://www.shoplva.com/collections/video-poker/software.

By the way, some have asked whether the FVP software is still for sale. I myself am out of product sales these days. And FVP can be downloaded for free at Jim Wolf's Web site. However, there seems to be a few people who want the CD. I can't figure out why unless that is the only way they can view the 11-minute video in which I explain the basics of smart video poker play and they want to see the finale showing Brad and me in the Jacuzzi!!!!

So for these few "crazy" people, you can buy the FVP CD in a package with the FVP book at http://tinyurl.com/nanapiercy or http://tinyurl.com/3achgyv.

One minor addition. I have Windows 7 Professional and using the "Windows XP Virtual Machine" feature works perfectly with FVP.

Since I am not very computer savvy, I don't fully understand this. Does this mean you can install FVP from the CD without moving files from the older computer where the program was originally installed?

I'll second that. The current version of iWinPoker that lets you change pay tables and analyze games is an excellent product for the iPhone.

Yes. This is the same as using Windows XP from scratch and I installed your disc that way. I also used a separate 3.5" disc drive to install VPSM.

Sorry, I should add that Windows Virtual Machine is a free download from Microsoft for those who have Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional. This is effectively a 32 bit version of Windows XP and anything that ran under Windows XP should run via this. (I have no idea which programs are exceptions.)

It's not the Windows 7 which makes it unable to install; it's whether or not the computer has a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. It will install on the 32-bit; it will not install on the 64-bit (though it will run, as you said, by simply transferring the files from one computer to another). RGE is still selling plenty of the combos; some people just like having a physical disc and others don't trust downloads for whatever reason.

OOps, that last post of mine was supposed to be a private one. Serves me
right for being up at my computer when I'm supposed to be in bed. But no
harm done. Although I have deleted it on the Web site.

(I am down with RSV, a lung virus.)

You know, that is a quite nice video. I remember that Jean, Brad, and I were almost thrown out of the Palms because we didn't rope off the area.
