The Balloonist

A man in a hot air balloon realised he was lost. He reduced altitude and
spotted a man below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you
help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago to play some video
poker systems based on short term profit taking and switching from a losing
short pay machine to another short pay machine that we think might pay more, but
I don't know where I am."

The man below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately
30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude
and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude. The method most often used by
those in the know for winning at video poker involves the following: Selecting
machines that with paytables, cashback, bounceback, multiple point days and
other promotions adds up to well over 100% which we attain after playing about
one million hands. We professional video poker players attain that average
return in fewer than eight months because of all the hours we play. Also we
practice on a regular basis using computer video poker simulators in order to
play as optimally perfectly as we can for both fixed royals and progressive
machines"

"You must be an advantage video poker player," said the balloonist.

"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically
correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I
am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far and you've delayed my
trip."

The man below responded, "You must be a ploopie video poker player."

"Why, yes I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the man on the ground, "you don't know where you are or where
you are going. You have risen to your altitude due to a large quantity of hot
air. You are going to play a system which is based on incorrect mathematic
theories. You have little comprehension of the random number process and you
refuse to let me solve your gross lack of knowledge and understanding about
video poker playing. The fact is you are in exactly the same five to eight
percent long term losing position you were in before we met, but now, somehow,
it's my fault!"

EXCELLENT. This is a well-presented metaphor. My only concern is about
the term "ploopie." How is this different from a "ploppy?"

I agree totally. Very clever metaphor, presentation and content!

Bob, the difference between a "ploopie" and a "ploppy", is WHERE
they're sitting, and WHAT they're doing. I'm surprised that you
didn't know that! (o:
