Thanks to all of you who contributed coupons for the 2003 LV Grand Finale!
In order to facilitate your 2004 tax-planning--please be advised that we are
considering establishing the "Institute of Theoretical and Applied Statistics"
a Sect. 501(c)(3) tax-exempt foundation, which will accept deductitible cash
and coupon contributions.
Furthermore, based on our exhaustive review of the Code and Regs, it is our
opinion that coupon contributions will be fully deductible at their face value
as set by the issuers--rather than expected value. Such distinction is not
apparently addressed by the Code and Regs. (Yes, we will accept bulk
contributions of the Orleans' $1,000 funbooks.) Please check with your tax advisor.
Should such tax-exempt status and contributions be contested we will, of
course, then seek a letter ruling and aggressivley contest adverse findings.
Some of you may wish to become more actively involved in our planned
"Homeless Outreach" programs. If so, you may volunteer as drivers for our monthly
Coast buffet/MP runs. Mileage, of course, will be deductible at the charitable
rate of $.14/per mile, rather than the $.375/mile business rate (road
construction often necessitates lengthy detours).
We are also attempting to recruit crazydon as our volunteer (i.e., "unpaid")
Executive Director.
