Lately, there have been a couple of "test" posts to the group. I
suspect this is because Tom recently changed the REPLY default setting
so that replies composed online (on the Yahoo Group site) are sent to
the author of the message being responded to rather than posted to the
group. (Replies sent from your email program are still posted.)
To override this setting when replying to a post online it's necessary
to modify the TO field selection in the REPLY form to the group
address vpFREE@yahoogroups.com). I don't generally look at the TO
field and so a couple of my recent replies didn't post.
Just a "word to the wise" for those of us who don't opt to have group
posts emailed to us and read them online instead.

Harry is correct.
There are pros and cons with having a default reply to the group and
also with having it to the poster. Havng it to the poster helps prevent
messages that were intended to be personal and that might be
embarassing.
I was recently exposed to a discussion of the pros and cons, on another
group, and gathered that the consensus opinion/practice was to default
replies to the poster. So, I changed the default on vpFREE.
Whenever you send an Email, on the web or using an Email client
program, you should always check and make sure that it's going to your
intended address. It's a very easy/simple process to change the
addressee.
I've had some private feedback that indicates there have been some
problems with my switching the default. I welcome any comments and
can easily be convinced to change the default back to where it was.

I just looked at some of my overnight Email and it looks like my
default change has caused several problems.
So, I've just changed the default back to "reply to all members" where
it was formerly. If I become convinced that "reply to sender" is a
better option, I'll do some extensive notifying and educating before
implementing that default again.

I vote to leave it as it was. This is a group board. If someone wants to
reply to an individual in private then they can cut and paste.

I concur that is was fine the way it was. If I want to contact an individual privately, I'll send an email. That's my vote

Just click reply and at top of page you can change the routing from
the default to the originator. No need to cut and paste or separate
e mail. I was cutting and pasting and e mailing until
I "discovered" this.

I'm not sure if the new default setting affects all email programs. When I
hit reply it indicates that it's going to yahoogroups, not to the sender. I
don't see any way in the outlook reply field to change the default/
I guess it doesn't matter. Past couple of weeks I've just been sending
replies to myself. Helps avoid arguments.

I'll concede this point -- especially after recently posting my home
address and non-published phone number on another group
unintentionally in a reply meant to be private!
Still, my vote would be to opt for default posting to the board. But
I can deal with either default as necessary (I'll probably still screw
up with equal frequency :).
