Terribles record...

Was in Terribles last night and hit a bottom line quarter royal at
approximately 6:00:44! That's correct! I hit it just 44 seconds
after the double royals promo started. I looked at my cell phone and
it said 6:00 PM. I was a little bit nervous, but they told me the
time and I got paid the extra grand.

Anyone else get a double royal at Terribles that close to the start?

Before I went to play the double royal promotion at Terrible's
the first time, I spent plenty of time practicing on Winpoker all the
strategy changes for the double royal. Within a few minutes I hit a
straight flush on a "going for the royal" play, likely holding
something like K 10 suited where one would normally hold a K Q
offsuit. A few minutes after that I drew four cards to the A of hearts
to complete the royal, more than 178,000 to 1 against by my reckoning.
The first time playing the promotion and I hit it! Feeling pretty
brilliant, but wanting to make sure I had the time frame correct, I
asked the floor person processing the hand pay if the double royals
were in effect. She told me yes, BUT...it didn't apply to the game I
was playing, Jacks or Better.
Oops! I didn't see that in the rules posted online. Though, sure
enough, the Jacks exclusion did appear near the bottom of the
sheet posted in the casino, something like rule #15 of 18.
     Dumb luck indeed.

I know it was a big disappointment, but don't feel like you are "dumb." Almost all players, even the most skilled and experienced, have been "tricked" by fine-print exceptions at one time or another.

Terribles is not good about posting their promotions around the casino. New players would have no idea about their double-royal and many other good promos. You need to pick up their magazines that come out every two months (at the slot club desk and sometimes at Terrible's gas stations).

And to repeat the warning I give periodically - you need to find the written-down rules for EVERY promotion in which you plan to partake and read carefully, including the fine print. Casinos are kings of the small-print kingdom.

And Terrible's is, by far, the most complicated slot club that I know
of. I don't think it's very clear that the "Jacks or Better"
exclusion shouldn't apply to all non wild card games in which the
lowest pay is jacks or better.

In other words, you had to play a crummy paytable game in order to
qualify for the "double royal" promotion.
Something to ponder: why don't more "low-pay" games offer a royal
flush beyond 800 for 1? I know that 6/5 JOB used to, but most
other "low pay" games don't seem to offer a bigger jackpot
to "compensate" for the reduced paytable. Replies appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean here. You DO get double royals on 8/5 Bonus, where the bottom pay is jacks or better.

By the way, you only get double royals on quarters and below. At dollars and above, they just add $2000.

I meant that "Jacks or Better" could be understood to include all the
"Bonus" games which pay for jacks or better, and thus would be thought
to be excluded from the double pay on royals.

Oh, I guess you could interpret it that way - and it wouldn't surprise me if a casino did that. Thank goodness Terrible doesn't and they use Jacks or Better correctly as the name of a specific game. If jacks or better is not capitalized, I take it as the name of a hand.
