Teaching a Newbie

I have a friend who wants to start playing vp. They are tired of
just pushing a button on the slots. Let's give them credit for
that. They do not currently know the difference between a pair
and full house. I am aware of the various free or trial games
available on line and also the free basic strategy available on line.

My question is we need to start even before that so what is
available out there. Or what would you recommend? Possibly writing
down the definitions of the various hands and their ranks like we
did around the supper table every Thanksgiving or what.

This will be a long distance teaching experience as the newbie is
about 100 miles away from where I live. Probably will do most of
our commuications via e mail.

Many local bookstores might have something for
beginner VP players; however, I strongly suggest they
purchase a software program that allows them to play
VP. My program of choice is the Frugal Gambler VP and
it can be purchased at the Frugal Gambler website. I
think the cost is $40.00 or so and it is a great way
to learn how to play VP. Each game allows the player
to select their cards and if they have selected the
wrong cards, the game will let them know that. Also,
there is strategy info for each game. Plus there are
ways to even adjust the games for whatever type game
you play. It's great. I practice it on it everyday.

Hi Deuces. This is a common question. One that I had two years ago. I
would recommend purchasing a couple good books on the subject. My
favorite is: "American Mensa Guide to Casino Gambling. winning ways by
Andrew Brisman." Easy to read, informative, and covers all aspects of
casino gambling. It costs around $18.00 and can be ordered at any
bookstore. Another good book is: " Video Poker-Optimum play by Dan
Paymr." Also an easy read, but it contains some unnecessary fluff to
fill in the pages. It costs around $20.00. The Bob Dancer presents
Winpoker program or something very similar is a must. Also your student
should join this group. For some reason there are a many people here
that take a great deal of time, and have a lot of patience, when it
comes to helping novice players. Good luck. Dick M.

Frugal video poker does everything that Winpoker does and then a lot
more. Really worth more than the extra $10
