Taxis and tipping

It's not that I don't think it is safe downtown, but why take a chance when going through all of the hotels reduces your exposure. I stay downtown at MSS at least twice a year for a lot of years and have never had a problem. The next best way would be to walk along main street from the Plaza to the Cal or MSS, it is a fairly busy street and I think it would also be a safe route.

Your response "The route that you now take through the Cal is as safe
as it can get while walking." leads me to think you don't feel it's
very safe. We really wanted to enjoy Fremont Street on the 4th, but
want to be safe also. Hence the curfew question. Not that that's a
guarantee, but it can't hurt. Any thoughts/suggestion s??

I absolutely agree with Albert. Not only is it safer to walk
through hotels on your way from one destination to another, but
it's more fun, as well. You can check out VP inventory and even play a coin or two, as you wend your way along Fremont St. {{O:

I have stayed downtown dozens of times over the years, and at
one time or the other, have stayed at most of the downtown hotels.

When staying at the El Cortez, located in what is still a
rather seedy part of town, I made it a practice not to attempt
the journey down Fremont St. after dark.

I am an unarmed LOL, {{O: but never had ANY problems making the walk, alone, during daylight hours.
