The taxi's have been given a "fuel surcharge" increase of 20 cents/mile -now $3.20 to get in the cab and $2.20 per mile and $22/hour in 20 cent increments for waiting time. What makes htis absurd is that it isn't really a fuel surcharge but now you pay all the fuel on top of the cost already built in to the rates. If a taxi makes 15 mi/gallon the drive gets $3 from the surcharge for the 15 miles thus the surcharge is really asking you to pay a second time for his fuel over and above the taxi rates. Note, in the past, all surcharges eventually became part of the regular rates.
Even more interesting is that back in 2000, a lot of the cabs with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Liquid Propane (LP).? Both of these fuels have gone up as well but I don't think as much as gasoline.?
