tax question for Illinois & Missouri

Does anyone know if the casinos in Illinois or Missouri withhold taxes
from winnings? We live in a different state and I wanted to check
before playing.

Illinois does not; Missouri does - 4%

the above is correct, also Missouri has a $500 buy in limit per 2 hour
period. So big players have a hard time being able to stay in the game.

On a tax note, from my understanding (and I dont play in IL very
often) IL considers all W2G events to be taxable with NO deduction for
losses. This is extremely unfair to any gambler. How about someone
confirming or correcting my info on IL?

Not true at all. The loss limit is true, but the smart players have
several different methods for getting around it. The two most popular,
are buy in every two hours the day before a play, or save the cashout
vouchers, or the most decidedly illegal picking up stray cards on the
floor or in the reader. Curiously, MO seems to have more than its fair
share of stray slot cards. Except, of course, the day I had a 3% play
on a $5 DDB progressive in St. Louis and couldn't find an extra one
for my life (nor could hit anything quickly).
