This is comparing apples and oranges. Wether a rebate is taxable
or not
depends on the nature of the item it is rebating. A rebate on
something taxable
is taxable. A rebate on a personal item is not taxable.

No, you misunderstood, as another poster pointed out, sales tax on
the entire purchase price on the car is correct but the rebate on it
was not taxable for income purposes,
you alredy paid the income tax on the $ you put in the slot, the
rebate or bounce back or playback is consdired a return of YOUR $,
You are getting a rebate on somthing that is NOT taxable again
I cant think of a situation where you would get a rebate on something
taxable ie: income, When my credit card sends me my "reward" points
not taxable, when i get my bonus from work taxable as that is income
that no tax has been charged.
Research , research

PS the person that that was dinged with a w2g when getting there
cash back can contact the casino legal dept & ask for a corrected w2g
, then file a 1040x to get back THEIR $ if it is worth the trouble,
been done before.
