They're reserved for players who, by taking advantage of excessive
shutdowns, show absolutely no consideration for other players.

not unusual to see such players holding one or more machines for
excessive amounts of time between shutdowns for friends/spouses
when
the machines are supposedly "up", and in many other respects
exhibit
behavior can only be deemed rude and ignorant (to make a mild
call).
I've encountered incidents such as this disproportionately at
Harrah's, where a Diamond card apparently is a passport to
obnoxious
behavior. The attendents won't challenge even the most egregious
absuses of the privilege (such as shutting a machine down for 2
hours,
···
playing it very lightly over a couple of hours, and then asking for
another 2 hour shut down).
Now, I'll admit to being frustrated when there's a strong machine
that's not available because of very extended play by one or more
players. However, so long as they actively play it and don't take
unreasonable breaks I fully acknowledge that they're in the right.

Thanks for your reasonable & enlightened (as usual) response.
I too, have encountered machine hogs, who grab machines on both
sides of the one they're playing, drop 1 coin in each, and commence
playing only the middle machine, for hours on end. I have never
understood such abysmally rude behavior. I also would not think of
approaching these people, as most of them appear to be desperate
enough to verbally or perhaps, even physically, attack anyone who
would think of questioning their right to tie up every machine
within reach. Some even stand-up so that they can "lock-up" 4
machines!
I try to avoid Harrahs, in any jurisdiction. They NEVER give VP
players a square deal. I used to play at Harrahs/Lake Tahoe,
because my husband & I both love Lake Hahoe in the summertime. A
few years ago thay had FPDW on their M/G machines near the front
entrance and also near the elevators. Two or three years ago, while
we were there, they changed the computer chips during the wee hours,
and the next morning, NSUD appeared instead. We'd like to think WE
weren't responsible because we both hit the Deuces the night before,
but who knows. Maybe the magnificent combined $500 we won was too
much for Harrah's bottom line. We left that day for the Pepp, in
Reno, where they did have FPDW & FPJW, at that time. Sadly, that's
no more either. Anyway, that is the ONLY Harrahs I've been in that
actually had FP machines.
For all your intelligent and thoughtful posts, I commend you and
