Take action (rant)

From: misscraps@aol.com

As I stated on Vp-Mail - the best thing is to write - written comments always
have more clout than verbal comments. Fill out comment cards, write letters
to the owner of Coast casinos. Tell them that you not only will play there
less, or stop playing altogether, but also mention that you are no longer
going to bring your friends and relatives with you, who like to play "Double
Diamonds", Craps, or whatever. You will also stop recommending this casino
to other people you know and people you meet - in fact will tell them NOT to
play there.

Actually, I just finished a letter to the Suncoast telling them how much I enjoyed my latest week stay there. And while I did not make a lot of money, but came out slightly ahead, I had a wonderful time. I averaged about 31k per day through the machines and really enjoyed myself. I especially like the quiet laid back atmosphere of the place.

Will I complain about the loss of FPDW or the tightening of food comps? No. I look at it this way. I have to eat no matter where I am, and my parents raised me to pay my own way in life and not sponge off of others. If I am offered a free meal or room comp, fine, I will accept it, but I am not a beggar and I don't feel the casino "owes" me anything. I came to them, they did not come to me.

When I cashed out at the slot card club, as usual they asked me if I wanted all kinds of free crap and I told them no. Sure I could of taken the stuff, but what am I really going to do with it? Put it a drawer at home, where it will never see the light of day again until I throw it out to make room for other stuff? Decorate my living room or give it away to my friends, so I can brag how great I am? No thanks. Besides, I drink enough free bourbon during my stay to make up for any free stuff I might get.

Do I get treated better because I don't take the freebies? Maybe, maybe not. Hard to tell, but I have never been barred from a casino or had my slot card taken away and I have had only one losing year in the past 10 years. I have friends that only occasionally take the free stuff and they have been treated the same. The casino's track this stuff and it does not take them long of figure out who the greedy ones are. Problem is, when a casino is particularly generous with their comps, the greedy ones get used to it. When they tighten things up, guess who the first people are to rant and rave about the injustice of not receiving a comp that they think is owed them just for walking in the door.

As far as FPDW are concerned, and I know a lot of people like this game because the EV is so low and you normally can't lose much while putting tons of points on your slot card for all that freebie crap, but I personally think it's the most boring game VP has ever come up with. If I really want to waste time, I will play 9/6 JoB.

I know that some people will say that I am not taking full advantage of all that is available to me and milking the system for all it's worth. My reply to that is I was not brought up that way and that you can only take advantage of a good thing for so long until the advantage is denied to you because you helped kill it. Live with it.

Bob,

You seem to have the right idea. gambling is gambling. Sometimes you
win, sometimes you loose. The idea is to ALWAYS have a terrific time.

Me, I started out playing craps and shooting quarters on the street,
and moved on to playing poker in the back-room of bars. I still play
backroom poker, but I would rather play it at the Horseshoe. When the
casinos short the play to the point where the atmosphere, and service
cannot make up the difference. I'll be sitting across the table from
you in the back-room of the VFW. I know that you are a savvy enough
player, to be there.

Care to make a wager on where the rest of these advantage players
will be?

So it is your understanding that the downgrading of VP pay tables at
Suncoast is the result of people asking for comps and accepting
the "freebie crap" that has been offered to them? Where do you get
this information?

Another moral person talking down to the sinners. We are certainly
blessed to have you. I too hate to play "boring" games you can win at
as opposed to "exciting" games where my $$ fly away. You are killing
good VP, not he "greedy ones".
