I was up in Tahoe over the weekend. Significant snowfall led to the
opening of several ski areas, but the crowds were very light.
Some notes for the VP database:
Horizon: The best games appear to be 9/6 JOB (scattered throughout the
casino) in single and three-line .25 denoms, also NSUD in threeplays
available near the state line entrance. Comps/cashback APPEAR to be
.2/.1, "appear" I say because the countdown meters are confusing (and
sometimes don't work) and the boothlings have NO clue as to what
coin-in means (I mean, total bovine blank looks abounded). My
estimation is from an approximation of estimated hands/hr X play duration.
Harrah's: A long slide down the snowy slippery slope from best VP at
the lake to the absolute worst. I found nothing playable, with the
exception of two old .25 9/6 Jacks games (most were 8/5).
Harvey's: Now that it's been eaten by Harrah's (my sister thinks that
the two properties should be merged under one name, the "Har-Har")
there is little hope for this place. There might be a couple of old
Bonus Deuces games left; I think I saw them; who cares. NOTE: The
"Reel Rewards" funny money can NOT be used in ANY VP machine EXCEPT
(for now) a lonely bank of 8/5 prog JOB located near the stair-up
restrooms on the north side.
And now for the big surprise!! Have you EVER seen Multistrike with
fullpay paytables?? I mean, we're talking 20/7 Joker, FPDW, 10/6 DDB,
and 10/7 DB? And across the board in .05/.10/.25 denominations?? Well,
there are at least two such beauties, in the Peppermill. They face the
cabaret stage. I didn't get much of a chance to scope out the rest of
the VP offerings (which I recall, are fairly lousy), so thrilled was I
to be playing a Multi without crap paytables (the best I've found here
in Vegas is NSUD at Fiesta Henderson).
BTW, the Peppermill slot club is absolutely worthless, with a "don't
ask/don't tell" system where you not only can't find out how many
points you need for dinner, say, but you can't even find out how many
points you HAVE. My lone experience is being denied a coffee shop comp
for two after playing four hours of .25 triple-play. I guess the comp
rate is .000001 or something (i.e., the Sultan of Brunei betting his
entire fortune can expect to be comped to the breakfast special: no
free refills on the coffee).
