Three friends and I hit Laughlin for the holiday weekend. Stayed at EW
on a postcard offer and secured two rooms in the Sedona Tower. The
rooms seem to be remodeled from our last stay, and there are pillow-top
mattresses which were really comfortable.
I'm the only rabid VPer in the group, although I've been trying to
encourage higher EV play from my friends. They still played Pai-Gow
and Craps and a new game called Texas Shoot Out, and I'm still the only
one that left southern NV with more money than I brought. One of them
did hit the proverbial royal on a quarter machine while only playing
one coin. I've failed, obviously.
Service in the Garden Room was typically very slow and the people at
the register don't seem to know what they are doing. There was always
a line to get out. Food's okay.
We arrived Thanksgiving night, and I went to bed early since I decided
I really like Harrah's L and after much debate decided it was worth
going diamond there. I've never played at any Harrah's anywhere and
I'm awaiting the combining of Total Rewards and Caesars Connection. I
wanted to get an early start in case things weren't going well in my
quest to put $18,000 through the machines. I didn't get up as early as
intended, but after scarfing down a McDonald's breakfast, I was at my
machine by 7:30 a.m.
I want to sincerely thank all the math-heads for suggesting that the 50-
Play $.05 JoB were the appropriate machines on which to qualify for
diamond. The machines are fun to play, and I was very fortunate. I
hit three royals, three sf's, and over 120 quads. I ended up with
diamond and up $128. I chose to not play at the $.10 level even though
it would have sped things up.
The staff at Harrah's were very attentive and friendly and really took
care of me. They even bought out the player's club director to meet me
when I picked up my diamond card.
My friends joined me and we ate at the Harrah's buffet, which I thought
was really good, nice selection, and very fresh. I discovered after
lunch that I had already hit diamond, so two of us decided to earn
another one, which we did after about 2.5 hours. That run ended up in
the negative by about $200. Then my name was drawn for the daily cash
of $175! I've never won anything in a casino drawing before, so that
was exciting, and we all had big hopes for the Set For Life drawing at
5:00, but none of us were picked.
We headed to the diamond lounge at that point and enjoyed refreshments
on the terrace. This I liked.
We hung around Harrah's the rest of the evening. I spaced out meeting
members of the board at EW at 7:00 p.m. (sorry! next time!), but we
were having fun and I decided not to drive for awhile after the foray
into the diamond lounge.
Saturday we hit the outlet mall, Riverside car exhibit and Watch Man,
and looked at the RV's. We played moderately throughout the day. I
kept losing on the FPDW and winning on the $.50 JoB, so maybe jacks is
my new favorite game.
Had dinner at the Beef Baron to burn some Caesars comps. I'd never
been in there, but I'd been under the impression that it was a really
nice restaurant. The food was great (prime rib and filets for our
table) but the atmosphere was really noisy and distracting.
We'd charged many meals to our rooms at EW and I was concerned that
even between the four of us we didn't have enough play to cover them,
but the hosts at EW are really nice and took care of our balance. I
left Laughlin up about $10 which is just fine with me. Now I'm going
to sit back and wait for mail from Harrah's.
