Super Double Bonus Poker - At SunCoast

I tried an archive search to see if this game has ever been
discussed, but didn't find anything. But it might be there somewhere.

Anyway, I came across this game at the SunCoast, and its quite
unusual. I had to setup a customized game with WinPoker to determine
the return ... 98.7%. Not great, but thought I should bring this
game up anyway ... the pay schedule may be better in other casinos.
The variance is 38.6.

This game showed up in only a few places, including a $1 Five play
and on a $5 Triple Play.

Here's the pay schedule, based on max coins bet.
RF: 4000
SF: 400
4Aces: 800
4-J,Q,K: 600
4-2,3,4: 400
4-5thru10: 250
FH: 40
F: 25
ST: 20
3ofK: 15
2P: 5
JBP: 5

Notice the larger than normal SF, the odd quad J,Q,K payoff, and the
odd 5thru10 quad payoff.

Has anyone seen this game before ... where? The playing strategy
must be quite different from the typical Double BP game.

I played this game at Sante Fe station and Cannery last October as
quarters. I hit quad 3's for $100 and had some good playing time.
The full pay version is 9/5/4 (99.36% 37.46 var.) I'm not sure wat
the full house payoff on the machines I played on, but I has hoping
to hit the quads. Most of my quad hits are J,K,Q so Super double
bonus is a game I prefer to DB. -Russ

brumar_lv commented on the Super Double Bonus Poker game he observed
at Suncoast (extract below) and noted that strategy was likely
different from typical DB.

When we're simply "trolling" around a casino to see what's there and
come across an interesting game it's tempting to pop a $20 into an
interesting unfamilar game (speaking from personal experience, at least

But a reasonably knowledgable player finds a degree of gnawing in
their stomach over the fact that they really don't know the correct
strategy. I just wanted to remark that in many cases a player who has
a grip on standard 9/6 JB and 10/7 DB strategies generally can "wing
it" with reasonable accuracy.

----------

When it comes to most "Jacks or Better" type games (std. and bonus),
strategy changes are largely driven by the flush and straight pays.
If a game has the 6F:4S pays of 9/6/4 JB, then JB strategy will
usually serve you pretty well. This is true whether the game returns
a single or double bet on 2 pair. Reduce the flush to 5 (e.g. 8/5 BP)
and 9/6/4 JB strategy will still manage well.

But for flush and straight pays greater than 6F:4S you want to start
incorporating the appropriate DB adjustments as appropriate (e.g.,
play 9/6/5 DB and you want to pick up 10/7/5 DB straight adjustments,
but play flush holds as in 9/6/4 JB.)

Where quad pay on a face card increases to 800+, you can also add
reasonable adjustments akin to the Ace hold adjustments of DB.

This guidance is offered as a straightforward means to greater
confidence that when playing an unfamilar game your errors won't give
away the farm. (Other less critical changes could be suggested.) Of
course, when you're looking at a strongly altered game such as All
American (where the pays are 8/8/8 and the SF pays 200 (vs. 50) per
coin), you're still going to be falling considerably short of optimal
strategy with these suggested adjustments.

In the case of the Suncoast Super DB game, the basic paytable is 8/5
and, as suggested here, 9/6 Jacks strategy will do respectably well.
The ER of the game when played with Jacks strategy falls nominally
from the game optimal 98.7% to 98.4%, a 0.3% impairment.

By comparison, if you approached the game with 10/7 strategy your ER
shortfall from optimal ER is a full 1%, about 97.6%.

There is a full pay version of Super Double Bonus upstairs at Sams Town.

9-5 SDB is more common in the Midwest. The only problem is that when
it's offered on a multi-line machine, it will be with 16-10 Deuces
and perhaps 8-5 Super Aces. Both games offer higher payout and the
Deuces significantly lower variance, and for higher stakes, less tax
forms. I can only think of one casino where it's the highest paying
game on a machine.

The strategy is similar to Bonus Deluxe, except you would play J109s
over a small pair and you would play KQ over KQ109.

There's a $1 9-5 Prog at I think Oasis (if not, then Casablanca) in
Mesquite with a good meter (no c/b) on older, coin spilling
machines. Enjoy the drive.

9/5 version is the 'fullpay' version of this game.
I have mainly seen it in a few scattered 3/5 plays (.25), but as
others have noted, NSUD is also usually a game choice.
I've also seen it in some of the newer MultiGame GameKings by IGT.
On rare occaisions - in a stand alone version (Castaways had a few).

In comparison to 10/7 DB, I think it's actually more volatile (bec.
St/Fl/FH pay less). You get that occaisional SF for 400 vs. 250, but
in between quads, it is a big drain, in my experiences.
