Sunset silliness for quarter visitors

Last week Brenda and I were at Sunset Station for 3 nights playing quarter
FPDW. Two of the nights were on a mailed offer of "two free nights". When I made
the reservation through host Nancy D I asked for an additional night and was
offered a third night at casino rate with the usual evaluation at check out.
Although I had not stayed there previously, I played there one afternoon in
July and learned I would need play of 6 - 7k of FPDW to meet their theoretical
loss for a room comp.

After playing about 9K the first day I checked in with the host to see how I
stood on getting the third night and limited food comped. She told me I could
only get the third night comped if I played enough to also cover the first two
nights. After a lot of discussion about the meaning of the word "free" she
relented by saying it was a new policy and since we didn't know this at the time
the reservation was made she would take care of the third night. She added
that if I continued at that rate of play I would get limited food of $15 dollars
per day.

We continued to play about 9k per day and charged only $37 dollars in food as
we ate most meals at other properties. On check out I called Nancy and
learned there was another "new policy" that would not allow her to comp any food for
quarter players. I reminded her of what she had told me two days earlier and
she said the policy had changed since then.

Nancy provided a phone number for her boss who I talked to later in the day.
The boss said they use common sense (imagine that from casino management) when
deciding food comps for quarter players and it was not necessarily so that
they were not comped as someone losing a lot probably would be comped. She added
that the policy concerning comps for quarter players had been in place for a
long time. She agreed however to cover the charges even though I had won money
(one royal) since I was told by the host they would be covered.

Host Nancy D has a good reputation so I have trouble thinking this silliness
is caused by her ineptitude. Another host told me Sunset has had 13 GMs since
opening and has suffered a lack of consistency and direction as a result.

At any rate, Sunset currently seems to be discouraging quarter playing
visitors. I would recommend any quarter player using the two night offer to use it
for FITR only and play VP elsewhere.

Don,
Don't feel too bad. I don't know about Sunset, but at Texas Station we've
been told that because we only play the "good" machines (FPDW), not to even
bother to ask for any discretionary comps, because we'll be denied. It
doesn't matter if we're winning or losing. It's "use your points" or
nothing.

What does "FITR" mean? I checked the Glossary for VPFree and found

It wasn't there when you asked about it.

I added it after you asked about it.

Sorry about that. No wonder my wife is always teasing me about not
seeing something that is right in front of me. I don't know how I
missed it, because I can remember seeing "FA -- Flush Attack" and
wondering what that is. What is it?

Stations has been doing this sort of thing for a few years - they
send out free room offers, then you can't get comped for diddly-squat
because they take the rack rate value of the room and put your comp
balance in a negative balance status. The hosts can't even bypass it
with a simply buffet discretionary comp. And they don't tell you
that they're doing this until you're already there. I used to be a
loyal Palace regular until they pulled that nonsense on us.

I will definitely clear this up with Nancy D. later this week because if
they are playing that game I want to know upfront. I'll just cancel the
reservation and have the room booked through Nancy anyway.

You should not have a problem using just the two night offer. You can
play $0 coin in and the 2 nights will be free. We ran into trouble by
adding a third night. That is when we learned we had to play enough
to cover all three room nights. In any event, if you are playing
quarters don't expect any food comps unless you lose a lot of money.

Somebody recently posted that these "2 free nights" come off your comp
account.

Can anyone verify this?

thanks
