I've just been victimized by the new Suncoast policy for
discretionary comps. I hadn't asked for a comp since Thanksgiving.
I had $37,000 coin-in in December and early January, asked for 4
buffets last Friday (1/10) and got them. Tonight (1/17), after an
additional $11,000 coin-in, asked for 2 buffets and was turned down.
I was told to swipe my card but went home instead. The floorperson
told us they had a new policy since the beginning of the year but
didn't know what the requirements were for a buffet comp. She said
they've been turning down a lot of people lately.
Suncoast Discretionary Comps
Something like this happened to us the other night. John had over $80K
coin-in since his last discretionary comp. He asked for dinner-for-two at
Primo's and was turned down by the floorperson. She told him that
management had cancelled ALL discretionary comps "until further notice."
She did say that maybe this policy could change in the future, but that's
the way it is now.

Suncoast had better get its act together soon. I suspect that while
people aren't pleased with significantly more restictions on comps,
what really gets their goat is not knowing what the hard guidelines
are now. People REALLY prefer to be able to ask for a comp having a
decent expectation that it'll be granted. A system that leaves them
guessing and up for what always seems like a bit of a slap in the face
if refused is frustrating as hell.

OK, I spoke to one of the Assistant Slot Shift Managers and this is
what he told me. In order to qualify for a discretionary comp, you
must have $30,000 coin-in in the previous 30-day period. It's not
calendar month, it's a rolling 30-day total. I was at $28,500
because I was out-of-town for Christmas. If you meet the $30,000
test, then the system is the same as before based on total play and
total comps received.
