I agree that the California Indian casinos have come a long way. I agree that it might wet your appetite for the "real thing" as when you walk out the door, that's it -- no glitz or another casino next door, but inside is where I disagree with you. I just spent the weekend at Pala and it was fantastic. I've had many great experiences there. I can't remember a time when I've walked out a loser there, but again, that's my experience. While cashing in my tickets at the cashier, I saw a woman hit the jackpot on the Wheel of Fortune slot and got her check for almost half a million. Not bad for a $20 investment. I then drove down to Pauma, a non-resort casino 10 minutes down the road, at the insistance of a friend who wanted to play nickel vp and on my $20 in, came out with $800, and that was nickels. I honestly can't wait until Pauma becomes the Hard Rock Hotel "west" w/in the next 24 months. I usually stop by Harrah's Rincon on all my trips down in that area, but I find it to be tighter than most. The entertainment at Pala & Harrah's Rincon is fantastic imho and Peter Morton promises that when the Hard Rock moves into the area, that they'll be getting A list acts in there as well.

Oh please - I've been to several of the CA tribal casinos. Spa, Barona,
Trump 29, and another I forget. The only comparison to LV is they have slot
machines. IMHO they nicely whet peoples appetites for the real deal. I think the
numbers bear that out.
