Strategy Changes Due to Progressives; especially in DB 10/7

I posted this method, in this group several months ago, that I have used
for many years. It does take time. Using Winpoker (If you still have
version 5 you need to upgrade.) or Frugal VP run each royal combination
versus other close and not so close hands that would normally be better
than the royal draw at 4000 coins. Take the difference in EV between the
normal play and the royal play. If it is a 4 card royal multiply the
difference by 47. If it is a three card royal use 1081. If it is a two card
royal use 16215. If it is a single high card use 178365. Add 4000 to the
result to get the break-even point above which you make the royal draw. Bob
Dancer had a two part article explaining this in Strictly Slots several
years ago. I used this technique many years ago with the old Stanford Wong
VP software for all playable progressives in the Chicago Area including the
Empress 10-7 DB progressive that was lowered to 9-7 last June with the
opening of the new barge as the state of IL cracked down on 100%+ games.
(Casino Queen in E. St. Louis lowered the value of the plain 4 of a kinds
to get under 100%.)

Ex: At 10-7 DB you hold Kd, Qd, 10d, Qh, 2s. QQ has EV of 7.2812. Kd, Qd,
10d has EV of 7.1693. Difference = 0.1119 Multiply by 1081 gives 120.96 so
the break even point is 4000 + 120.96 = 4120.96 so at 4121 coins or higher
this is played for the royal.

That use of unmodified DB 10/7 strategy gives up quite a bit of ER
when fully-correct strategy would yield 102%.

Ideally, such a reference might show the RF value at which each
change becomes indicated, and an estimate of the cost of NOT making
each such change.>>

You can use Frugal VP software to do this but it is time-intensive. I

usually just print out the strategy for a 4500-coin royal, 5000, 5500, etc.
for the few times we play a progressive - not exact but good enough for our
limited progressive play. We don't play any regularly now - but we used to
play a 10/7 DB progressive at Empress in Joliet - not sure if it is still
there.

All the pros who regularly play progressives have all the exact

breakpoints for all the progressives games they regularly scout and play -
but none of them are going to put that information on the Internet!!!!!

I used this method to determine the after-tax breakpoints in the 8-5
Bonus and Aces & Faces progressives I play in Mississippi. I would
like to have Dancer's articles as a reference. If I'd known the
archives would be truncated I would have printed them. Are the old
articles still available anywhere?

As a general rule, links to articles are posted on vpFREE rather
than the article itself. The Bob Dancer articles are still available
at the same place(s) they were at originally.
