Strategy Cards and how to read them.

OK! Call me stupid but can someone give me a brief explanation as
how to read the Strategy Cards. I've been going to Vegas for years.
Play mostly Black Jack or Hold 'em. Once in a while I'll sit down an
play VP but I would like to learn it the right way. Would Dancers'
or Boyds' book be the way to go? I've had a fair amount of success
at VP but nothing to write home about like some of you guys/gals. I
guess what I'm looking for is some kind of chart that says what you
should hold and what you shoud discard.

Are these odds for a winning hand if you have these cards in your
hand?

Thanks much and sorry for the stupid question....

The first column is simply the item number (no real value). The
second item is the average return for holding that combination of
cards. This is for information purposes primarily (sometimes there
are ties). Essentially, you find the various strategy line items that
match the hand you are dealt (there are usually several) and take the
item with the highest expected return which is the highest on the
chart. If you do this for every single hand then, over time, you will
see the maximum return for your play.

I know this sounds like a very tedious task. It would be if one
actually went through this process for every hand. However, using a
software trainer you will soon learn the rules and won't have to
refer to the strategy chart on every hand.

Hope this helps.
