Strategy Card use question

Please forgive what may be a naive question. It's been a couple of years since we last played VP (our nearby casinos have now removed all decent games & have cut cashback). We used to keep our strategy cards in our laps or in the machine trays for occasional reference. I have since read (on these boards, IIRC) that it is now a bad idea to have the cards visible & will invite unwanted scrutiny or worse, particularly when playing positive expectation games.

We've practiced enough on WinPoker that we rarely have to refer to the card and will soon be travelling to Nevada. Is it still recommended to visit the restroom or some other unobtrusive spot if one needs to refer to the card?

TIA,

Noosarazoo

Not a naive question at all. I've yet to see anyone busted for using a strategy card and I play in both Reno and Vegas. If you only refer to it occasionally, all the better, but don't leave your machine to use it - not necessary. Good luck!

I use one of those small clear makeup bags from Walmart. I keep my slot club cards and strategy cards in it. Easy to read discreetly thru the plastic.

I place my cell phone over my card in front of me on a Slant Top... or
front shirt pocket.

I've never seen anyone get "heat" for using a strategy card. I also use Winpoker and I have it on my iphone. Whenever I want to check a difficult hand, I plug it into the Winpoker analyzer and follow that advice - much easier than carrying cards around. I've done this at the bars as well as on the floor without drawaing any attention. In fact, my phone is usually out in front of me on the bar or machine so I'm not sitting on it (No butt-dialing!!)

In my opinion, using a strategy card in the casino is perfectly fine and I haven't seen anyone approached or harassed for using one on the floor. I think that using winpoker on an I-phone on the floor could and probably should be considered "using a device to analyze the strategy for playing the game". If I were going to check a hand using a phone app, I would NOT risk felony charges by doing it on the floor of a casino. A strategy card is a much safer option.

The following is directly from Nevada Revised Statutes:

NRS 465.075 Use of device for calculating probabilities.

It is unlawful for any person at a licensed gaming establishment to use, or possess with the intent to use, any device to assist:

      1. In projecting the outcome of the game;

      2. In keeping track of the cards played;

      3. In analyzing the probability of the occurrence of an event relating to the game; or

      4. In analyzing the strategy for playing or betting to be used in the game,

except as permitted by the commission.

NRS 465.088 Penalties for violation of NRS 465.070 to 465.085, inclusive.

      1. A person who violates any provision of NRS 465.070 to 465.085, inclusive, is guilty of a category B felony and shall be punished:

      (a) For the first offense, by imprisonment in the state prison for a minimum term of not less than 1 year and a maximum term of not more than 6 years, or by a fine of not more than $10,000, or by both fine and imprisonment.

      (b) For a second or subsequent violation of any of these provisions, by imprisonment in the state prison for a minimum term of not less than 1 year and a maximum term of not more than 6 years, and may be further punished by a fine of not more than $10,000. The court shall not suspend a sentence of imprisonment imposed pursuant to this paragraph, or grant probation to the person convicted.

" ...Frankie...shouze I call the cops...Naah Fagetabout it , see if he does it again....Yeah he keeps doin it every couple of hands - must be a computer inside his cell phone...Just 86 the bastard..."
