Straight flush / royal flush

Opinion question for the group.
On a recent trip to Vegas I was playing single line DDB and was dealt
a 9-10-J-Q-K of clubs. I held the straight flush and collected my 250
credit reward. The bartender on duty said that he would have held the
10-K and gone for the royal. I figured that I had made the correct
strategic play since I had a mere 2.1% chance of pulling the ace.
What would you have done?

Hold the SF the next 46 times it happens, but on the 47th go for the
royal. 46 X 250 = 11500 coins + 4000 coin royal.

Easy for the bartender to give up the money, it was not his. On the
other hands aren't Royals what it is all about?

I would have done what you did, which is the right hold, keep the
straight flush. I think also my tip for the bartender would have been
minimal.

There are holds you have to do because they are very valuable, but
you hate doing them. Here are a few. On DB you get a flush and four
to a straight flush, hold the flush. On ten play deuces you get a
wild royal with one deuce, hold the wild royal. On jacks or better
you get a pat flush and four to a royal, hold four to a royal.

Somebody care to add to the list of first dealt hands you hate to get
since you know what you will hold, but you hate doing it?

Yeah.....in 10/7 DB, dealt AA and another pair, hold the two pair
instead of just the AA. I especially hate it when another ace comes
up as the one card I draw.

That 9-10-J-Q-K SF on the deal is the most painful, though.
Fortunately, it doesn't happen that often! (Then again.....I
wouldn't mind if it happened on every hand.....) And holding the SF
is absolutely the right move.
