A poster on vpFree recently asked about mailers at Stations. I'm posting this to both vpFree and vp-mail since there seems to be a lot of confusion about how it works, especially since Green Valley is only 50% owned and their customers are treated differently than the customers of the other five (Sunset, Texas, Santa Fe, Boulder and Palace).
It is very hard to get a straight answer, but I believe I finally know the system. The slot club manager at Sunset discussed this with the Corporate executive who sets the policy and explained it to me. Confusion sets in because Green Valley tells a different (and incorrect) story.
The basic levels for Gold, Platinum and President are consistent at all properties. However, the monthly mailers have many more tiers. The amount of free play in the monthly mailers apparently goes from $5 to $50 coupons. Point multipliers are 3X for the bottom tiers and 4X for Platinum and above with the Green Valley exception noted below.
Total play at all six Station Casinos over a three month period ending the last day of the month plus the home casino determines the mailer. The casino with the most coin-in in the last month of the period is your home casino. Free play only shows up in the home casino. If the home casino is NOT Green Valley the Platinum-level mailers begin at $60,000 of total coin-in for 90 days prior. These mailers include free hotel nights, $25 free play coupons, 4X point multipliers, 24,000 free points and a few other goodies not given to lower levels. If your home casino is GVR, Platinum level mailers begin at $75,000. By the time you get to President-level mailers, I understand the difference in coin-in to get a comparable mailer is considerably higher than the $15,000 at Platinum. In addition, the point multiplier coupons for a GVR customer is only good at GVR (although the player club manager at any of the other properties can manually override and give you the points) while customers of the other five can automatically use the coupons at any of the five. I don't know if GVR can accept the coupons of the other five.
Green Valley tells their customers that only play at GVR counts towards the mailers. They say this is because GVR is only 50% owned by Stations. They may be doing this to encourage their customers to give all their Station plays to GVR or they may legitimately be confused. However, this is NOT true. All play at all six is combined, the tiers are defined higher at GVR because of the 50% ownership.
Personally, I consider this unfair. Yes, I get a line pass and the discounts associated with Platinum but I get a reduced mailer. This costs me, at a minimum, $30 in free play and many thousands of free points each month. So while I will still occasionally go to GVR since it is so close to me and so nice to play in, Sunset gets the bulk of my play. In addition, I have noticed that my host at Sunset seems much more anxious for my business having offered several nice perks. My host at GVR barely knows my name. This in spite of the fact that GVR has (until now) gotten maybe 80% of my Station play.
